"A Whole New World" is the signature song from Disney's 1992 animated feature film Aladdin, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice. A duet originally recorded by singers Brad Kane and Lea Salonga in their respective roles as the singing voices of the main characters Aladdin and Jasmine, the ballad serves as both the film's love and theme song. Lyrically, "A Whole New World" describes Aladdin showing the confined princess a life of freedom and the pair's acknowledgment of their love for each other while riding on a magic carpet.
The song garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 65th Academy Awards,{{cite web |url=http://oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/1993 |title=Best Original Song - The 65th Academy Awards (1993) |date=October 4, 2014 |publisher=Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences |access-date=February 15, 2018 |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180202000120/http://oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/1993 |archive-date=February 2, 2018}}{{Cite web |title=The 65th Academy Awards (1993) Nominees and Winners |url=http://www.oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/1993 |access-date=May 1, 2022 |work=oscars.org|date=October 4, 2014 }} a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song at the 50th Golden Globe Awards,{{cite web |title=SEARCH – Aladdin |url=http://www.goldenglobes.org/browse/film/23558 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100713032324/http://www.goldenglobes.org/browse/film/23558 |archive-date=July 13, 2010 |access-date=May 1, 2022 |publisher=Hollywood Foreign Press Association}} and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television at the 36th Grammy Awards, as well as a Grammy Award for Song of the Year, the only Disney song to do so.{{cite news |last=Pareles |first=Jon |date=March 2, 1994 |title=Top Grammy to Houston; 5 for 'Aladdin' |work=The New York Times |url=https://www.nytimes.com/1994/03/02/movies/top-grammy-to-houston-5-for-aladdin.html |url-status=live |access-date=May 1, 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090602224016/http://www.nytimes.com/1994/03/02/movies/top-grammy-to-houston-5-for-aladdin.html |archive-date=June 2, 2009}}{{Cite web |title=36th Grammy Awards - 1994 |url=http://www.rockonthenet.com/archive/1994/grammys.htm |access-date=May 1, 2022 |website=Rock On The Net}} In the same year, the pop version sung by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle was also nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals, winning the latter.{{Cite web |date=January 6, 1994 |title=Nominees for 36th annual Grammy Awards |url=https://www.upi.com/Archives/1994/01/06/Nominees-for-36th-annual-Grammy-Awards/4923757832400/ |access-date=May 1, 2022 |work=UPI}}

A single version of the song was released that same year and was performed by American recording artists Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. Alan Jones from Music Week gave the song five out of five. He wrote, "The theme from Aladdin is a huge appealing big ballad duet. A melodic tour de force with wide ranging appeal, it is wisely tipped as the Christmas number one."{{cite magazine|first= Alan |last= Jones |title= Market Preview: Mainstream - Singles |magazine= Music Week |date= December 11, 1993 |page= 12 |accessdate= April 5, 2021 |url= https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Music-Week/1993/Music-Week-1993-12-11.pdf}}
