Aurora OS ({{langx|ru|ОС Аврора}}) or Russian Open mobile platform (OMP) is a Russian Linux-based smartphone operating system developed by Rostelecom for business and governmental use. It was branched from Sailfish OS in 2019 and has its own app store and integration with the Russian government's official radio network ERA.

History

In 2016, Jolla started a development project whose goal was to localize the Sailfish platform in Russia. For this, a separate company was founded and the Russian-language version was called Sailfish Mobile OS RUS.{{Cite web |title=Cases |url=https://sailfishos.org/cases/ |access-date=2022-08-05 |website=Sailfish OS |language=en-US}} The first users of the platform were the Russian Post. In 2018, the Russian state applied for a secure mobile phone operating system for official use and Sailfish Mobile OS RUS was chosen and Rostelecom developed it further. In 2019, the platform was renamed Aurora OS.{{Cite web |date=2019-02-08 |title=Sailfish OS vaihtoi nimensä Venäjällä – Tunnetaan nyt nimellä "Aurora OS" |url=https://suomimobiili.fi/sailfish-os-vaihtoi-nimensa-venajalla-tunnetaan-nyt-nimella-aurora-os/ |access-date=2022-08-05 |website=SuomiMobiili |language=fi}} In 2022, Jolla announced that they had left the project and was no longer involved with it.{{Cite web |date=2022-02-25 |title=Plea for official statement from Jolla |url=https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/plea-for-official-statement-from-jolla/10430/40 |access-date=2022-08-05 |website=Sailfish OS Forum |language=en-GB}} In November 2021, according to Nokiamob.net, there were around 400,000 devices using it.{{Cite web |date=2021-11-16 |title=Aurora OS is based on Sailfish but owned by OMP {{!}} Nokiamob |url=https://nokiamob.net/2021/11/16/aurora-os-is-based-on-sailfish-but-owned-by-omp/,%20https://nokiamob.net/2021/11/16/aurora-os-is-based-on-sailfish-but-owned-by-omp/ |access-date=2022-08-05 |language=en-US}}

However, in 2022 Vedomosti reported that sales of the AYYA T1 to consumers were minimal.{{Cite web |title=Российский "смартфон для параноиков" оказался не нужен. This also affected the development of the AYYA T2, the planned successor to the T1, with its custom ARM-based "Scythian" processor additionally being affected by overheating problems.{{Cite web |last=TechStony |date=2022-07-11 |title=Russian smartphone for special services and the military was left without a secure OS "Kaspersky" - TechStony |url=https://techstony.com/russian-smartphone-for-special-services-and-the-military-was-left-without-a-secure-os-kaspersky/ |access-date=2022-08-05 |language=en-US}}{{Dead link|date=April 2024}}{{Cite web |title=Для российского смартфона не хватает отечественных процессоров.
