The BAFTA Award for Best Casting is a film award presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts at the annual British Academy Film Awards. It was introduced in the 73rd British Academy Film Awards in 2020.
In August 2019, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the introduction of the category. BAFTA chair Pippa Harris said in a statement: "We are delighted this year to be including the highly skilled work of casting directors for the first time. Casting is essential to the screen industries, and vital in terms of promoting diversity and inclusion on screen. We hope this Award will also help to promote an understanding of casting".{{cite web |url=https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/aug/07/bafta-film-and-tv-awards-introduce-new-casting-category |title=Bafta film and TV awards introduce new casting category |last=Pulver |first=Andrew |date=7 August 2019 |work=The Guardian |access-date=7 August 2019 |archive-date=8 November 2020 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201108000707/https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/aug/07/bafta-film-and-tv-awards-introduce-new-casting-category |url-status=live }}{{cite web |url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/bafta-adding-casting-category-2020-film-tv-awards-1229913/ |title=BAFTA Adding Casting Category to 2020 Film, TV Awards |last=Ritman |first=Alex |date=7 August 2019 |work=The Hollywood Reporter |access-date=7 August 2019 |archive-date=7 December 2021 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211207115505/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/bafta-adding-casting-category-2020-film-tv-awards-1229913/ |url-status=live }}{{cite web |url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/bafta-adds-award-casting-directors-will-oscars-follow-1271498/ |title=After BAFTA Adds Award for Casting Directors, Will the Oscars Follow? |last=Ritman |first=Alex |date=2 February 2020 |work=The Hollywood Reporter |access-date=2 February 2020 |archive-date=17 May 2021 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210517171102/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/bafta-adds-award-casting-directors-will-oscars-follow-1271498/ |url-status=live }}
