Background and career

Berger and Rabin grew up in Los Angeles, going to the same high school and involved in the music scene.{{cite web|url=http://dev.stereotude.com/captain-cuts/need-know-ben-berger-and-ryan-mcmahon.html|author=Howard, John|title=Need to Know: Ben Berger and Ryan McMahon|publisher=Stereotude|accessdate=2015-04-22|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150928011112/http://dev.stereotude.com/captain-cuts/need-know-ben-berger-and-ryan-mcmahon.html|archive-date=2015-09-28|url-status=dead}} They first wrote together several years later, and when their creative dynamic felt natural after the first song, they continued working together, eventually forming Captain Cuts and becoming long-term collaborators. Captain Cuts began performing DJ sets on a recurring basis at Emo Nite LA in 2016.{{Cite news |title= Emo Nite Founder Morgan Freed Talks Humble Beginnings, Nostalgia Band Reunion Fantasies, and more |publisher= Nest HQ |url= https://nesthq.com/interview-emo-night-co-founder |access-date= 2018-06-18 |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20180619035718/https://nesthq.com/interview-emo-night-co-founder |archive-date= 2018-06-19 |url-status= dead }}
