On September 6, 2011, a mass shooting occurred in a branch of the IHOP in Carson City, Nevada, United States. A gunman, identified as 32-year-old Eduardo Sencion,{{cite web|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/shooting-nevada-idUSN1E78513Q20110907|publisher=Reuters|date=2011-09-07|access-date=2016-03-16|title=Gunman kills 4 at Nevada pancake house, shoots self}} killed four people, including three members of the National Guard, and wounded seven others, including two members of the National Guard, before fatally shooting himself.

Shooting

At 8:58 a.m., Sencion arrived at a local strip mall in a blue minivan that was registered in his brother's name.[https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/nevada-ihop-attack-leaves-5-dead-including-gunman-1.1060064 Nevada IHOP attack leaves 5 dead, including gunman], CBC News (September 6, 2011) He got out and shot and wounded a woman on a motorcycle with a Norinco MAK-90 semi-automatic rifle that had its stock removed and was converted to fully-automatic, a felony under the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA).[https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-14813982 IHOP shooting: Nevada gunman kills four in diner], BBC News (September 7, 2011){{cite news|title=Sheriff: Gun in Nevada IHOP shooting was illegally altered to fully automatic machine gun|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/sheriff-gun-in-deadly-nevada-ihop-shooting-was-illegally-altered/2011/10/05/gIQAeyGWNL_story.html|accessdate=October 6, 2011|newspaper=The Washington Post|date=October 5, 2011}}{{dead link|date=June 2021|bot=medic}}{{cbignore|bot=medic}} At around 9:00 a.m. he walked inside the center's IHOP and made his way to the back where he started shooting. He first targeted a group of uniformed National Guardsmen, all of whom were eating at the same table; five of them were shot, three of them fatally. He then targeted other patrons, killing a 67-year-old woman.

Sencion then left the restaurant and began shooting into three nearby businesses, injuring no one.[https://www.reuters.com/article/us-shooting-nevada-idUSTRE78550M20110906 Four dead in shooting at Nevada restaurant] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150924155041/http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/06/us-shooting-nevada-idUSTRE78550M20110906 |date=September 24, 2015 }}, Reuters (September 6, 2011)[https://www.foxnews.com/us/gunman-kills-two-national-guard-members-one-other-in-shooting-rampage-at-nevada-ihop/ Gunman Kills Two National Guard Members, One Other in Shooting Rampage at Nevada IHOP], Fox News Channel (September 6, 2011) During the massacre, Ralph Swagler, who owned a neighboring restaurant, grabbed his own gun with the intention of shooting Sencion, but was unable to due to the rapid gunfire. Police arrived at 9:06 a.m., in response to which Sencion put a Colt Agent pistol to his head and shot and wounded himself, later dying at the hospital. Police would later find a Romarm/CUGIR GP WASR-10 rifle and a Glock 26 Gen3 semi-automatic pistol in his van outside the restaurant. Due to the severity of the massacre and fears that it would become more widespread, Nevada officials declared a lock-down on the state capitol and Supreme Court buildings for around 40 minutes, while extra security was set up at state and military buildings in northern Nevada.[http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/09/06/nevada.shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 Gunman kills 3, wounds others at Nevada IHOP], CNN (September 7, 2011)[http://www.nevadaappeal.com/article/20110908/NEWS/110909787/1070&ParentProfile=1058 IHOP SHOOTING: Friends, family remember victims of shooting], Nevada Appeal (September 8, 2011)
