Cooper Lake is Intel's codename for the third-generation of their Xeon Scalable processors, developed as the successor to Cascade Lake-SP. Cooper Lake processors are targeted at the 4S and 8S segments of the server market; Ice Lake-SP serves the 1S and 2S segment.{{Cite web|title=Intel Launches Cooper Lake With New AI, Increased Bandwidth, 2nd Gen Optane – ExtremeTech|url=https://www.extremetech.com/computing/311895-intel-launches-cooper-lake-with-new-ai-increased-bandwidth-2nd-gen-optane|access-date=2020-08-22|website=www.extremetech.com}}{{Cite news|author1=Anton Shilov|author2=Ian Cutress|title=Intel Server Roadmap: 14nm Cooper Lake in 2019, 10nm Ice Lake in 2020|url=https://www.anandtech.com/show/13194/intel-shows-xeon-2018-2019-roadmap-cooper-lakesp-and-ice-lakesp-confirmed|access-date=2018-09-03}}{{Cite web|last=servethehome|date=2020-03-16|title=Intel Cooper Lake Rationalized Still Launching 1H 2020|url=https://www.servethehome.com/intel-cooper-lake-rationalized-still-launching-1h-2020/|access-date=2021-04-16|website=ServeTheHome|language=en-US}}

Features

Cooper Lake was launched on June 18, 2020 and features up to 28 cores.{{Cite web|last=Cutress|first=Dr Ian|title=Intel Launches Cooper Lake: 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable for 4P/8P Servers|url=https://www.anandtech.com/show/15862/intel-launches-cooper-lake-3rd-generation-xeon-scalable-for-4p8p-servers|access-date=2020-06-18|website=www.anandtech.com}} Aside from a few microarchitectural changes, Cooper Lake's microarchitecture is mostly identical to Skylake.{{Cite web|last=Morgan|first=Timothy Prickett|date=2020-06-18|title=Taking A Deep Dive Into "Cooper Lake" Xeon SP Processors|url=https://www.nextplatform.com/2020/06/18/taking-a-deep-dive-into-cooper-lake-xeon-sp-processors/|access-date=2021-04-16|website=The Next Platform|language=en-US}} Cooper Lake features faster memory support (DDR4-3200 over DDR4-2933), support for second-generation Optane memory, and double the UPI links over Cascade Lake. Cooper Lake is the first x86 CPU to support the new bfloat16 instruction set as a part of Intel's Deep Learning Boost (DPL).

= Improvements =

  • New bfloat16 instruction
  • Support for up to 12 DIMMs of DDR4 memory per CPU socket
  • Xeon Platinum supports up to eight sockets; Xeon Gold supports up to four sockets; Xeon Silver and Bronze support up to two sockets
  • -H: up to 1.12TB DDR4 per socket
  • -HL: Large DDR memory tier support (up to 4.5TB){{cite web|date=2020-06-18|title=Intel Launches Cooper Lake: 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable for 4P/8P Servers|url=https://www.anandtech.com/show/15862/intel-launches-cooper-lake-3rd-generation-xeon-scalable-for-4p8p-servers|publisher=Anandtech}}
