In his review for AllMusic, Alex Henderson states "Heartfelt performances of 'Woody'N You' and 'Serpent's Tooth' leave no doubt that Sonny Rollins is Halliday's primary influence, but also demonstrate that he's very much his own man."{{allMusic|last=Henderson|first=Alex|class=album|id=mw00002780201|title=Lin Halliday – Delayed Exposure: Review|accessdate=March 28, 2017}}

The Penguin Guide to Jazz notes "Some standards and a blues give everyone a chance to hold down some choruses and, if Sullivan's trumpet turns are the most distinctive things here, Halliday acquits himself with the comfortable assurance of a veteran player."{{cite book|last = Cook|first = Richard|author-link = Richard Cook (journalist)|author2=Brian Morton |authorlink2=Brian Morton (Scottish writer) |title = The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD|origyear = |edition = 6th|series = The Penguin Guide to Jazz|year = 2002|publisher = Penguin|location = London|isbn = 0140515216|pages = 643}}
