History

DreamCatcher Interactive was founded in 1996 at Toronto, Canada. Its first published title was Jewels of the Oracle.{{cite web | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20020619111608/http://www.profitguide.com/profit100/2002/features.asp?ID=955 | url=http://www.profitguide.com:80/profit100/2002/features.asp?ID=955 | title=PROFIT 100 2002 Company #5: DreamCatcher Interactive Inc. | author=Baillie, Susanne | work=Profit | archive-date=June 19, 2002 | url-status=dead }} The company gradually drifted into becoming a publisher focused on the adventure genre after finding that "customers really were hungry for" these titles, according to DreamCatcher's Marshall Zwicker. Beyond Time was among the releases whose reception drew the publisher to this field. Profit reported that DreamCatcher located such projects via "networking at tradeshows and reviewing unsolicited game proposals." In 1999, DreamCatcher pushed its corporate strategy by launching Nightlong: Union City Conspiracy, The Forgotten: It Begins and The Crystal Key.{{cite web | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20000817030025/http://www.adventuregamer.com/features/interviews/dreamcatcher.shtml | url=http://www.adventuregamer.com:80/features/interviews/dreamcatcher.shtml | title=An exclusive interview with... DreamCatcher's top four titles for 2000 were Dracula: Resurrection, Traitors Gate, Beyond Atlantis and The Crystal Key. These games respectively made up 9%, 14%, 15% and 32% of DreamCatcher's sales that year.{{cite report | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20030704221830/http://www.cryofinance.com/fr/Finance/RapportCryo2000.pdf | url=http://www.cryofinance.com/fr/Finance/RapportCryo2000.pdf | title=Document de référence 2000 | date=July 11, 2001 | language=fr | publisher=Cryo Interactive | pages=27, 33 | archive-date=July 4, 2003 | url-status=dead }} In March 2000, DreamCatcher was purchased by Cryo Interactive.{{cite web | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170322203638/https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/93723/Cryo_Acquires_Dreamcatcher.php | url=https://www.gamedeveloper.com/game-platforms/cryo-acquires-dreamcatcher | title=Cryo Acquires Dreamcatcher | author=Hong, Quang | date=March 3, 2000 | work=Gamasutra | archive-date=March 22, 2017 | url-status=live }} Continuing the company's growth, in November 2000, DreamCatcher signed with Her Interactive to publish the Nancy Drew franchise.{{Cite web |url=http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Her+Interactive+Signs+Deal+With+DreamCatcher+to+Publish+and...-a066572698 |title=DreamCatcher Publishes Nancy Drew |access-date=2010-10-19 |archive-date=2012-10-21 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121021102704/http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Her+Interactive+Signs+Deal+With+DreamCatcher+to+Publish+and...-a066572698 |url-status=dead }}

Silverline Software would release the "Time to Ride" series of girl's horse games starting in 2004, which would later be acquired by Ubisoft.{{Citation needed|date=October 2010}}

In 2011, JoWooD went into administration causing DreamCatcher to file for bankruptcy. In November 2011, Nordic Games Holding announced that they had acquired all DreamCatcher assets and would be turning it into a publishing label of their subsidiary Nordic Games.{{cite web |url=http://www.nordicgames.at/index.php/article/nordic_games_holding_ab_group_acquires_dreamcatcher |title=Nordic Games Holding AB Group acquires DreamCatcher |publisher=Nordic Games |date=2011-11-17 |access-date=2011-12-11 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111221074214/http://www.nordicgames.at/index.php/article/nordic_games_holding_ab_group_acquires_dreamcatcher |archive-date=2011-12-21 |url-status=dead }} Nordic Games Holding had previously acquired JoWooD and The Adventure Company in August also turning both brands into publishing labels of Nordic Games.{{cite web |url=http://www.nordicgames.se/index.php?/article/nordic_games_holding_ab_group_acquires_jowood_the_adventure_company |title=Nordic Games Holding AB Group Acquires JoWood & The Adventure Company |publisher=Nordic Games |date=2011-08-16 |access-date=2011-08-17 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120118023226/http://www.nordicgames.se/index.php?%2Farticle%2Fnordic_games_holding_ab_group_acquires_jowood_the_adventure_company |archive-date=2012-01-18 |url-status=live }}{{Cite web |date=2011-08-21 |title=Nordic games acquires Jowood and The Adventure Company |url=https://afjv.com/news/47_nordic-games-acquires-jowood.htm |access-date=2024-04-29 |website=AFJV |language=fr}} All business operations of this brand are being conducted out of THQ Nordic in Vienna, Austria.
