Football career
=Club=
Nicknamed "El Emperador", Baldivieso began his career in his native Cochabamba playing for Wilstermann in 1987. After the World Cup, he transferred to Argentine team Newell's Old Boys from Rosario, where he played until the winter of 97. Subsequently, he joined J1 League club Yokohama Marinos for a couple of years. Towards the end of his career he returned to Bolivia and played for The Strongest, and later made his final run with Aurora on and off the field as he also managed the team.{{fact|date=November 2023}}
Throughout his career, Baldivieso also played in 46 Copa Libertadores games altogether for three different teams and scored 11 goals.[https://www.rsssf.org/players/players-in-copalib.html rsssf: Copa Libertadores statistics]
=International=
Baldivieso made his debut for Bolivia on 14 June 1991 in a friendly match, losing 1–0 against Paraguay in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. He obtained a total number of 85 caps during his career, scoring fifteen goals. He played his last international match on 12 October 2005: a World Cup Qualifier against Peru in Tacna.{{fact|date=November 2023}}
=Managerial=
During his last season as a player Baldivieso transitioned into coaching as he took over the manager position at the club. In November 2008 he won the Clausura tournament with Aurora in a very disputed 3-game final series against Blooming. On 19 July 2009, still being Aurora's manager, he made debut his own 12-year-old son, called Mauricio Baldivieso. At the end of the match he strongly criticized the referee and one opponent who made his son cry after a hard tackle. He quit Aurora 5 days later, after the club's board told him to pick between his job and his son. He also withdrew his son from the team.[http://www.diario26.com/tras-el-polemico-debut-baldivieso-y-su-hijo-se-van-del-aurora-de-bolivia-93224.html Tras el polémico debut, Baldivieso y su hijo se van del Aurora de Bolivia] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160808091727/http://www.diario26.com/tras-el-polemico-debut-baldivieso-y-su-hijo-se-van-del-aurora-de-bolivia-93224.html |date=8 August 2016 }} diario26.com {{in lang|es}}[http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/internacional/noticias/2009/07/24/dt-baldivieso-dejo-al-aurora-donde-hizo-debutar-a-su-hijo-de-12-anos DT Baldivieso dejó al Aurora donde hizo debutar a su hijo de 12 años] mediotiempo.com {{in lang|es}} On 20 May 2011 Baldivieso returned to Aurora for his second spell.[http://www.lostiempos.com/diario/actualidad/deportes/20110420/julio-cesar-baldivieso-asume-en-aurora_122339_244710.html Julio César Baldivieso asume en Aurora] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110423091812/http://www.lostiempos.com/diario/actualidad/deportes/20110420/julio-cesar-baldivieso-asume-en-aurora_122339_244710.html |date=23 April 2011 }} lostiempos.com {{in lang|es}} Later in his career he also managed Real Potosí,[https://archive.today/20160719225114/http://www.elpotosi.net/2012/0211/47.php Baldivieso quiere un título con Real Potosí] elpotosi.net {{in lang|es}} Nacional Potosí,[http://www.late.com.bo/julio-cesar-baldivieso-sera-el-nuevo-tecnico-de-nacional-potosi/ Julio César Baldivieso será el nuevo técnico de Nacional Potosí] late.com.bo {{in lang|es}} San José,{{usurped|1=[https://web.archive.org/web/20160304213943/http://lapatriaenlinea.com/?nota=167419 Julio César Baldivieso es el nuevo entrenador de San José]}} lapatriaenlinea.com {{in lang|es}} Wilstermann[http://www.erbol.com.bo/noticia/deportes/29052014/julio_baldivieso_es_el_nuevo_entrenador_de_wilstermann Julio Baldivieso es el nuevo entrenador de Wilstermann] erbol.com.bo {{in lang|es}} and Universitario de Sucre.[http://www.eldiario.net/noticias/2014/2014_12/nt141224/deportes.php?n=96&-baldivieso-es-nuevo-dt-de-universitario Baldivieso es nuevo DT de Universitario] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160917231426/http://www.eldiario.net/noticias/2014/2014_12/nt141224/deportes.php?n=96&-baldivieso-es-nuevo-dt-de-universitario |date=17 September 2016 }} eldiario.net {{in lang|es}} On 28 August 2015 Baldivieso was officially presented as the manager for the Bolivia national team.[http://diez.bo/futbol/2015/08/28/baldivieso-fue-presentado-como-nuevo-entrenador-verde-6439 Baldivieso fue presentado como entrenador de Bolivia] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150829210030/http://diez.bo/futbol/2015/08/28/baldivieso-fue-presentado-como-nuevo-entrenador-verde-6439 |date=29 August 2015 }} eldeber.com.bo {{in lang|es}}[http://www.la-razon.com/marcas/futbol/Baldivieso-Seleccion-Boliviana-Futbol-eliminatorias_0_2334366645.html Baldivieso ya es técnico de la selección; encarará las eliminatorias] la-razon.com {{in lang|es}}
