The Lebanese Football Association (LFA; {{langx|ar|الاتحاد اللبناني لكرة القدم|Al-Ittiḥād Al-Lubnānī Likurat Al-Qadam}}; {{langx|fr|Fédération Libanaise de Football}}) is the governing body of association football in Lebanon. Formed in 1933, it is a member of both FIFA and the AFC. It is also one of the founding members of the WAFF, joining in its inception in 2001.

History

In 1931 Khalil Hilmi, a member of Riyadi Beirut, attempted to form a federation.{{Sfn|Sakr|1992|p=35}} However, the proposal failed as Nahda opposed its formation.{{Sfn|Sakr|1992|p=35}} On 22 March 1933, representatives of thirteen football clubs gathered in the Minet El Hosn district in Beirut to form the Lebanese Football Association (LFA).{{Cite web|url=https://al-akhbar.com/Sport/135020|script-title=ar:الإعلام الرياضي في لبنان بين شباك السياسة والإهمال|website=الأخبار|language=ar|trans-title=Sports media in Lebanon between politics and neglect|access-date=20 December 2018}} Hussein Sejaan was the LFA's first president.{{Sfn|Sakr|1992|p=17}} Lebanon was one of the first nations in the Middle East to establish an administrative body for association football.{{efn|The FA's of Iran, Egypt, Turkey, and Israel are older.}}{{sfn|Henshaw|1979|p=420}} The LFA joined FIFA in 1936 and the AFC in 1964.{{Cite web|url=http://lebanesefootballassociation.com/%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%a7%d8%aa%d8%ad%d8%a7%d8%af/|script-title=ar:لمحة عن الإتحاد|last=عساف|first=فراس ابو|website=الاتحاد اللبناني لكرة القدم|language=ar|trans-title=Lebanese Football Federation|access-date=20 December 2018}} In 2001, the LFA joined the WAFF as one of its founding members.{{Cite web|url=https://www.kuna.net.kw/ArticleDetails.aspx?id=2785928|title=Jordanian Prince Ali re-elected as president of WAFF|website=Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)|access-date=6 June 2019}}

In 1985, in the midst of the Lebanese Civil War, the LFA was divided into two administrations: Western, headed by Nabil Al Raei, and Eastern, headed by Hamid Khoury. FIFA froze Lebanon's membership until 5 February 1987, when FIFA president Sepp Blatter sent a telex letter to the LFA recognizing the elections of 2 May 1985, which had elected Al Raei as the LFA president.{{Cite web|date=2020-04-07|script-title=ar:شرعية إتحاد كرة القدم|url=https://www.nidaalwatan.com/article/18405-%D9%87%D9%84-%D8%AA%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%85-3%D8%B4%D8%B1%D8%B9%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%A5%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%A7%D8%AF-%D9%83%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%82%D8%AF%D9%85|access-date=2020-08-30|website=نداء الوطن|language=en}}
