The storm collapsed her foremast, which punctured her hull, and she foundered in the North Atlantic Ocean about 100 nautical miles (185 km) east of Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia, and about 260 nautical miles (482 km) east of Boston, Massachusetts, at {{coord|42|40|N|065|11|W|name=SS Arctic Bear}}.
