Ohayocon is a three-day anime convention typically held during January/February in Dayton, Ohio at the Dayton Convention Center. Ohayocon's name is derived from the similarity between "Ohio", the convention's location, and {{nihongo|Ohayou|おはよう}}, which means "good morning" in Japanese.{{cite news | work = The Columbus Dispatch | title = Anime fans find fun in dressing up in character | date = 2011-01-30 | last = Gearino | first = Dan | url = http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2011/01/30/anime-fans-find-fun-in-dressing-up-in-character.html | access-date = 2012-06-17}}{{cite news | work = The News Record | title = Ohayocon brings cosplay to Ohio | date = 2010-01-03 | url = http://www.newsrecord.org/ohayocon-brings-cosplay-to-ohio/article_95cc2a38-9331-5822-bd90-cff448c575c5.html | access-date = 2018-02-17}}{{cite news | work = The Columbus Dispatch | title = Ohayocon fans come dressed in elaborate costumes for convention | date = 2014-01-26 | last = Siegel | first = Jim | url = http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2014/01/26/weve-got-some-real-characters-here.html | access-date = 2014-02-05}}

=Controversy and relocation 2024-present=
Significant numbers of the conventions leadership and volunteers did not participate in the 2024 convention. This was due to the firing of the conventions chair and head of marketing over a logo dispute, among other issues including finances. The convention contends at the time they were removed due to organizational changes surrounding the formation of the Cultural Exchange Society Inc. (CESI), which as of 2024, the formation of is still not complete (specifically the non-profit status.) The staff, as part of the Conventions of Ohio Volunteer Event Network (COVEN), attempted to negotiate unsuccessfully with CESI. Ohayocon announced new leadership prior to the 2025 event, along with the convention moving to the Dayton Convention Center.{{cite news |last1=Mateo |first1=Alex |title=Exclusive: Ohayocon Convention Reveals New Senior Leadership Team (Updated) |url=https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2024-11-13/exclusive-ohayocon-convention-reveals-new-senior-leadership-team/.217780 |access-date=14 November 2024 |work=Anime News Network |date=13 November 2024 |language=en}} In January 2025, Ohayocon's owners sued Sekai Guild/Sekaicon, a new convention formed by former staff of Ohayocon.
