Paul Eiding (born March 28, 1957) is an American actor, best known for his voice roles as Colonel Roy Campbell in the Metal Gear series, Perceptor in The Transformers, and Max Tennyson in the Ben 10 franchise.
Early career
Eiding was inspired to become an actor by his experience serving in the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Division in Würzburg, Germany. During this time, he joined a performing group named the Marne Glee Club. Although he was one of the youngest G.I.s in the group, he was soon promoted to a directing position due to his music background. The group performed across Germany, Belgium, Denmark, and northern France for soldiers and civilian audiences.{{cite web |url=https://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/interview/45546/hearing_is_believing__paul_eiding |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141103124904/https://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/interview/45546/hearing_is_believing__paul_eiding#.VFd5zB_P09E |title=Hearing is believing |last=Reljic |first=Teodor |website=Malta Today |publisher=Media Today |date=October 29, 2014 |archive-date=November 3, 2014 |access-date=February 27, 2023 |url-status=live}}
During the 1970s, Eiding was a prolific commercial actor, appearing in advertisements for snowmobiles, granola bars, department stores, and clothing.{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/119568769/actor-thrives-on-theater-of-today/ |title=Actor thrives on theater of today |first=Barbara |last=Lundquist |newspaper=Wausau Daily Herald |location=Wausau, Wisconsin |date=September 9, 1977 |page=24}}{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/104185428/paul-eiding-in-the-charmings/ |title=Features: Town & Country |last=Williams |first=Joanne |newspaper=Wausau Daily Herald |location=Wausau, Wisconsin |date=January 10, 1988 |page=37}} He also worked for theater groups across the Midwest, including Dudley Riggs's Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis.{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/104187760/what-the-butler-saw-auditions/ |title=What the Butler Saw auditions |newspaper=Wausau Daily Herald |location=Wausau, Wisconsin |date=May 23, 1980 |page=19}} Eiding found the Brave New Workshop's improvisational approach exhausting, elaborating that "You have to take time off to think of new ideas. At Dudley Riggs we were doing nine shows a week". Before coming to Wausau, Wisconsin, Eiding played a small part aside Sylvester Stallone in the Norman Jewison film F.I.S.T., which was shot in Iowa. In Wausau, he led a number of workshops, and was a guest director for its community theater's production of the comedy-mystery What the Butler Saw in 1980. He was a director and actor for the Chanhassen Dinner Theater of Minneapolis, portraying Max Detweiler in its 1981 production of The Sound of Music.{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/104191219/chanhassen-sound-of-music/ |title=Artistic war of wills ends in Sound of Music |last=Vaughan |first=Peter |newspaper=The Minneapolis Star |location=Minneapolis, Minnesota |date=March 20, 1981 |page=27}} On February 2, 1981, Eiding hosted the Twin Cities' first award ceremony for distinguished achievement in local theater, which was held at the Children's Theatre Company.{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/119572791/childrens-theatres-500-hats-is-big/ |title=Children's Theatre's 500 Hats is big Kudos winner |last=Vaughan |first=Peter |newspaper=The Minneapolis Star |location=Minneapolis, Minnesota |date=February 3, 1981 |page=15}}
In 1983, Eiding starred in a dual role as Joshua and Cathy in Don Amendolia's Los Angeles production of Caryl Churchill's Cloud 9.{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/119572094/flying-high-on-cloud-nine/ |title=Flying High on Cloud Nine |first=Dan |last=Sullivan |newspaper=The Los Angeles Times |location=Los Angeles, California |date=May 29, 1983 |page=228}} In the late 1980s, Eiding appeared in the short-lived ABC sitcom The Charmings as the neighbor Don Miller.
