During the general elections that were held in May 2014, Danve won the Jalna constituency for the fourth time. Immediately afterwards, he was sworn in by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Minister of State for Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the position he held till March 2015.{{cite web|url=http://www.ndtv.com/people/raosaheb-danve-minister-of-state-consumer-affairs-food-and-public-distribution-564071|title=Raosaheb Danve: Minister of State (Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution)|date=26 May 2014|work=NDTV.com|access-date=5 February 2016}}

Meanwhile, Maharashtra assembly elections were held in October 2014. BJP came to power and Devendra Fadnavis became first BJP Chief Minister of Maharashtra. However, as per the BJP culture, one person only holds one post a time, and hence Devendra Fadnavis resigned as the President of Maharashtra BJP and the search for a new leader commenced. Raosaheb Danve indicated to the party leadership that he was willing to resign as a minister{{cite web|url=http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/union-minister-raosaheb-dadarao-danve-resigns/|title=Maharashtra BJP president Raosaheb Dadarao Danve resigns as Union Minister|date=5 March 2015|work=The Indian Express|access-date=5 February 2016}} and in January 2015 he was appointed as the President of Maharashtra BJP by Amit Shah, the national President of BJP. Raosaheb Danve is only the second person in Maharashtra BJP to hold this office while also being a Member of Parliament. Earlier, late Suryabhan Vahadane-Patil had successfully carried the dual responsibility.{{citation needed|date=January 2016}}

Danve has attracted controversy due to his freewheeling public comments that may be misconstrued objectionably. For example, in 2016, a FIR was lodged against him for asking voters to accept Laxmi coming to their homes on election eve (alluding to vote buying).{{Cite web|url=https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/accept-laxmi-coming-to-your-home-maharashtra-bjp-chief-to-voters-1639004|title=Accept 'Lakshmi' Coming To Your Home: Maharashtra BJP Chief To Voters|website=NDTV.com|access-date=2019-05-26}}{{Cite web|url=http://www.afternoondc.in/city-news/take-laxmi-darshan-does-not-mean-take-money-danve/article_183979|title=Take 'Laxmi darshan' does not mean take money: Danve|website=www.afternoondc.in|access-date=2019-05-26}} When the prices of Tur fell in May 2017, Danve used the term "saale" to chide the "oversensitive farmers".{{Cite news|url=http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/mumbai/danve-abuses-farmers-over-tur-draws-flak/article18421438.ece|title=Danve abuses farmers over tur, draws flak|author=Staff Reporter|work=The Hindu|access-date=2017-05-12|language=en}}{{Cite news|url=http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/maharashtra-bjp-chief-raosaheb-danves-angry-comment-on-farmers-sparks-protests-1692275|title=Maharashtra BJP Chief's Angry Comment On Farmers Sparks Protests|work=NDTV.com|access-date=2017-05-12}} Use of such term was criticised by the opposition parties and Danve expressed his regrets concerning his comment. Later, in 2019, he said that the word saale is a common slang term which is not derogatory in rural marathwada, and he never intended to offend farmers.{{Cite web|url=https://www.loksatta.com/maharashtra-news/lok-sabha-election-bjps-language-chiefs-language-is-aggressive-1909638/|title='जायकवाडीची खोली आणि दानवेंची बोली'!|date=2019-06-11|website=Loksatta|language=mr-IN|access-date=2019-06-11}}
