Safety Town is a program for children that teaches safety lessons about fire, pedestrians/traffic, water, guns, and poisons/drugs. It is also the name given to a replica town created to instruct children about safety measures.
It may include a traffic park in which children can train and learn road traffic safety.
The Safety Town program was founded by Officer Frend Boals in Mansfield, Ohio in 1937 after a child was struck and killed by a car on his way to school. The "National Safety Town Center" was founded in 1964 by Dorothy Chlad in Cleveland, Ohio.{{Cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=7TQlAAAAIBAJ&pg=3547,429432&dq=national+safety+town+center&hl=en |title=Governor proclaims national safety town week |date=13 September 1989 |work=The Aberdeen Times |access-date=23 September 2013 |page=1}}{{Cite news |url=https://www.proquest.com/docview/396822151 |title=A bigger Safety Town is back |last=Hummel |first=Jim |date=27 July 1991 |work=Providence Journal |access-date=23 September 2013 |page=Z1}}
