Critical reception
Trouser Press wrote that "'Rabies (Baby’s Got The)' and 'Simian Fever' are animal aggressive and messy, while sharing the synthetic digitone lusts of new wave." The Chicago Tribune wrote that the album "eases up on the electronics but still assembles an arsenal of vintage synthesizers with Nintendo-like sterility." The Washington Post wrote that the band "continues its explorations of the dark post-punk territory blazed by such British outfits as Gang of Four and the Pop Group."{{Cite web|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1995/08/04/relentless-satellite/1aa1b0b0-21a9-43f3-bf2a-0e00d75badb6/|title=RELENTLESS SATELLITE|first=Mark|last=Jenkins|date=August 4, 1995|via=www.washingtonpost.com}} SF Weekly wrote: "Call it a party record, the kind you slip on at that inevitable point when you want 'certain people' to head home."{{Cite web|url=https://www.sfweekly.com/music/sticky-fingers/|title=Sticky Fingers - SF Weekly|date=July 26, 1995}} CMJ New Music Monthly thought that "the secret is drummer Rick Pelletier, who plays like a death-machine out of control."{{Cite web|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=5iwEAAAAMBAJ&dq=severe+exposure+six+finger+satellite&pg=PT10|title=CMJ New Music Monthly|date=August 1995}}
