Shaped by Fire is the seventh studio album by American metalcore band As I Lay Dying. It was released on September 20, 2019, through Nuclear Blast. The album was produced by the band themselves and is the follow-up to the group's sixth album, Awakened (2012). It is the first album in seven years after the band went on hiatus in 2014 when Tim Lambesis was incarcerated and sentenced to six years in prison for soliciting the murder of his estranged wife. It is also the last album to feature lead guitarist Nick Hipa, who left the band in 2020, and drummer Jordan Mancino and bassist/clean vocalist Josh Gilbert, both of whom left the band in 2022. Loudwire named it one of the 50 best metal albums of 2019.{{cite web |title=The 50 Best Metal Albums of 2019 |url=https://loudwire.com/best-metal-albums-2019/ |website=Loudwire |publisher=Townsquare Media |access-date=March 7, 2021 |date=December 3, 2019}}
On October 25, 2024, Shaped by Fire got pulled off all streaming sources Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music, and Tidal, among others. The band subsequently stated that it would only be temporary, as the rights to the album have reverted to them.{{Cite web |title=UPDATED:AS I LAY DYING album 'Shaped By Fire' pulled from streaming services, band release statement |url=https://lambgoat.com/news/44557/as-i-lay-dying-album-shaped-by-fire-removed-from-streaming-servies/ |access-date=2024-10-26 |website=lambgoat.com |language=en}} The album was restored in those sites a week after its removal.
Background and promotion
After Lambesis was released from prison on probation in December 2016 for attempting to hire a contract killer to murder his ex-wife, he began reaching out to the other members of the band looking to apologize in person starting with Mancino and Gilbert.{{cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsX3EZVyGkM|title=Discussion|last=asilaydying|date=June 16, 2018|accessdate=June 17, 2018|via=YouTube|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180818145913/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsX3EZVyGkM|archive-date=August 18, 2018|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/as-i-lay-dying-members-explain-controversial-comeback-in-emotional-30-minute-video/|title=AS I LAY DYING Members Explain Controversial Comeback in Emotional 30-Minute Video|date=June 17, 2018|accessdate=June 17, 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180618002808/http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/as-i-lay-dying-members-explain-controversial-comeback-in-emotional-30-minute-video/|archive-date=June 18, 2018|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=http://loudwire.com/is-tim-lambesis-out-of-prison-according-to-dokkens-george-lynch-hes-out|title=As I Lay Dying Singer Tim Lambesis Released From Prison|accessdate=February 16, 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170213175518/http://loudwire.com/is-tim-lambesis-out-of-prison-according-to-dokkens-george-lynch-hes-out/|archive-date=February 13, 2017|url-status=live}} After that he attempted to reconnect with Sgrosso and Hipa and eventually all four of them forgave him.{{cite web|url=https://www.theprp.com/2018/06/16/news/as-i-lay-dying-members-release-video-discussion-on-their-decision-to-return/|title=As I Lay Dying Members Release Video Discussion on Their Decision To Return|date=June 16, 2018|accessdate=June 17, 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180618003004/https://www.theprp.com/2018/06/16/news/as-i-lay-dying-members-release-video-discussion-on-their-decision-to-return/|archive-date=June 18, 2018|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=http://loudwire.com/tim-lambesis-apology/|title=As I Lay Dying's Tim Lambesis Offers Apology to Family|website=Loudwire|accessdate=June 17, 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180618002620/http://loudwire.com/tim-lambesis-apology/|archive-date=June 18, 2018|url-status=live}}
