Society of Composers & Lyricists#Awards

The Society of Composers & Lyricists is an organization founded in 1983 to represent composers and lyricists working in visual media, such as television and film.{{cite web |url=https://thescl.com/mission-and-history/ |title=Mission and History |publisher=Society of Composers & Lyricists |access-date=January 14, 2022}}{{cite web |url=https://www.thewrap.com/nicholas-britell-diane-warren-scl-awards-nominations/ |title=Nicholas Britell, Diane Warren Lead Noms for Society of Composers and Lyricists Awards |last=Pond |first=Steve |date=January 4, 2022 |website=TheWrap |access-date=January 14, 2022}} It sought union status in 1984 after the dissolution of the Composers and Lyricists Guild of America, but the National Labor Relations Board denied the bid on the basis that songwriters were independent contractors. Another attempt to become a union in the 1990s was also unsuccessful.{{cite book |last=Eicke |first=Stephan |title=The Struggle Behind the Soundtrack: Inside the Discordant New World of Film Scoring |date=2019 |publisher=McFarland |pages=198–199 |isbn=9781476637006}}{{cite web |url=https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2009-nov-18-fi-ct-composers18-story.html |title=Composers, lyricists make a union pitch |last=Verrier |first=Richard |date=November 18, 2009 |website=Los Angeles Times |access-date=January 14, 2022 |url-access=limited}} Members of the organization also include orchestrators, arrangers, music supervisors, music agents, music attorneys, music editors, copyists, and audio engineers.{{cite magazine |url=https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/joker-composer-hildur-gudnadottir-inaugural-society-of-composers-lyricists-awards-8547529/ |title='Joker' Composer Hildur Gudnadóttir Scores Big at Inaugural Society of Composers & Lyricists Awards |last=Newman |first=Melinda |date=January 8, 2020 |magazine=Billboard |access-date=January 14, 2022}}
