Upon being moved to Collin County in 1993, district 66 became a suburban Republican stronghold; recently however, the district has become increasingly competitive, with Democrats coming within 1 percentage point of flipping the district in both 2018 and 2020.{{Cite web |title=Election Results |url=https://www.collincountytx.gov:443/elections/election_results/Pages/result_archive.aspx |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211025164834/https://www.collincountytx.gov/elections/election_results/Pages/result_archive.aspx |archive-date=2021-10-25 |access-date=2021-06-16 |website=www.collincountytx.gov |language=en}}
As a result of the 2021 redistricting, the district will represent parts of Frisco, Plano, Prosper, and Celina.{{Cite web|title=District Population Analysis with County Subtotals|url=https://data.capitol.texas.gov/dataset/71af633c-21bf-42cf-ad48-4fe95593a897/resource/4d3dea56-d572-4794-af00-91975614049b/download/planh2316r100.pdf|access-date=1 November 2021|website=data.capitol.texas.gov}}
