Release and reception

"The Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt" was written by all members of the Shadows. Flingel Bunt is an imaginary character invented by the actor Richard O'Sullivan, a friend of the Shadows. The full title was given to the tune after the group had been to see the film The Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond.{{Cite web|date=2021-04-14|title=The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt by the Shadows - 1964 Hit Song|url=https://vancouversignaturesounds.com/hits/the-rise-and-fall-of-flingel-bunt-by-the-shadows/|access-date=2021-12-01|website=Vancouver Pop Music Signature Sounds|language=en}} It was released with the B-side "It's a Man's World", written by Malcolm Addey and Norman Smith.{{Citation|title=The Shadows - The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt|url=http://www.45cat.com/record/db7261|access-date=2021-12-01}}

Reviewed in Record Mirror, it was described as being "completely different from all the Shads' previous ones". "Good beat and it has plenty of blues' feeling, plus an air of earthiness".{{cite magazine|date=2 May 1964|title=So off-beat, but great new Shads|url=https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Record-Mirror/60s/64/Record-Mirror-1964-05-02-S-OCR.pdf|magazine=Record Mirror|page=13|access-date=1 December 2021|accessdate=}} For Disc, Don Nicholl wrote that "the actual instrumental itself is a steady, fairly dramatic production with thudding drumwork persisting behind the guitars".{{cite magazine|date=2 May 1964|title=Shads' 'Bunt' will climb into the charts!|url=https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Disc/1964/DISC-1964-05-02.pdf|magazine=Disc|page=10|access-date=1 December 2021}}
