: Thanks for your welcome Randykitty :-) I do have a question (on your talk page it says to reply here, so I'm trying here rather than there). I was planning on contributing by creating some new articles in the English Wikipedia about notable things that already have a German Wikipedia page. I got a start with Linneper Hof, which existed already but had a bad translation and a request for fixing it. (The original article in German was not ideal, though, so it wasn't much fun...) I would like to try the Content Translation tool, but it doesn't extend to editors with my level of experience. Is it possible to be added early? A bunch of penguins (talk) 10:37, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
::Hiya, just a quick note that I tagged the redirect Wikipedia:Elmar Schrüfer for deletion as an error. I saw your post on the NPP talk page but unfortunately I don't have that much time at the minute to really read, understand, and write a reply to the message. I'm also a bit inactive on NPP work and think it's best to leave it to the others.
::To answer the question above, I dabbled with translation when I first started and was quite excited too about trying the tool when I got to extended confirmed. A community discussion opted to disable the machine translation portion of the tool quite a while ago though and honestly I don't think it is that useful from what I can recall playing with it a while ago. While you can request the permission, it is rarely granted and it's probably easier to do what you are doing right now anyways. Also, don't forget to ping users when replying to notify them if they're not watching/monitoring the page. Welcome back to Wikipedia and I hope you enjoy your time editing! :::The part that I would really like help with is (hopefully automatic) translation of the citations. But I've found that if I paste the text into my sandbox and wait a day, there's a bot that will adjust them. On the other hand, a lot of the time the citations in the German wikipedia aren't sufficient, so I end up redoing them anyway...
:::One reason I wouldn't mind integrated machine translation is for the wikilinks - at least when there is already an inter-language link, it would be cool if the machine translation took that into account. Anyway, I'd like to try it out, but I'm sort of getting into a groove, and I'm fine to wait until I've reached whatever number of edits and days it takes to get access. I have to go read what ping is now :-) a bunch of penguins (talk) 15:26, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
::WP:PING @Randykitty so this has a better chance of being seen. I don't think most editors watchlist pages when adding templates like this. –Novem Linguae (talk) 12:52, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

- Hi! I have no experience with this tool. In the (few) cases that I have edited translations, I used Google translate as a start, then edited the text into correct English, and then looked at the sourcing, removing anything that was badly or even not sourced. In general, I don't like translating much, as other Wikis generally have much less stringent sourcing rules than enWP. I prefer writing the article from scratch, using other language versions as a source for references. Hope this helps. If you have further questions, I recommend that you try the Village Pump. Happy editing! --Randykitty (talk) 16:12, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- :Thanks @Randykitty :-)
- :I'm happy with a mix of translating and creating from scratch. One of the things I like about translations is that it they give you a hint of what to look for (e.g. finding book titles or awards lacking citations is easier when you already know the person published it or was awarded it). a bunch of penguins (talk) 16:32, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
Empty sections at [[Wikipedia:Requests for page importation]]
Hello, thanks for your requests there, but when you're creating a new request, you're adding a duplicate section header (example). To fix this, avoid writing anything in the subject/headline field, as counterintuitive as that may seem. Graham87 (talk) 15:14, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
:Whoops, sorry about that! Will try to remember to leave it blank from now on! a bunch of penguins (talk) 16:13, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for May 6
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Elisabeth Bauser, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Solution. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ{{*}} Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
