Copyright Term Extension

Re: the Martin article. I was referring to pages 317-318 of the article (Section XII subpart B). Hartboy (talk) 03:11, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

    course pages

Hi Brian! I see that you already have a course page for your intellectual property law course. Instead of having two different pages with info about it, maybe we should just point from the public policy courses page straight to your main course page. I'm really excited to have you on board with this project, by the way. We'll be in touch more in the near future, I'm sure. Cheers --Sage Ross - Online Faciliator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 14:19, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

:Hi Sage! I just wanted to put in my two cents about this: I think it's actually quite nice that there's a course page on the Public Policy WikiProject that contains content but links out at parts to Brian's Intellectual Property Law WikiProject. This makes this class' course page look similar in formatting to the other participating classes' course pages (thus reducing confusion for newcomers), without overshadowing all the work Brian has already put into the IPLaw WikiProject. Also, I think the assignment timeline is a crucial piece of the course page, and right now that timeline is not as clearly visible on the IPLaw WikiProject main page, probably because the latter already contains a lot of other, important content. Brian: I would also suggest linking some part of the course page directly to your complete class syllabus, but of course this is up to you. Annie Lin (Campus Team Coordinator, Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 03:52, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Brian. Note this list of Wikipedians who can answer students' questions about getting started on Wikipedia, formatting, etc. I added this link to your class's resources page. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:55, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

    Mentors for your students

    Hi Brian!

Your students are getting active now, and I've seen a bunch of excellent work so far. I was wondering if you think it would be helpful to match up an Online Ambassador as a mentor to each of your students. Since now and the near future seems to be the most useful time for them to get feedback and formatting help, if you think it's a good idea, I could just assign an ambassador to each student. Cheers --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 19:21, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

    course pages

Hi Brian! I see that you started a course page using the wizard, and also built a new page in your usual format. You're welcome to do as you wish, but since you have a pretty good system already, I'm not sure whether the wizard-built course page will help you much. Should I just list Wikipedia:WikiProject Intellectual Property law 2011 Berkeley as your class's page on the list of courses for this term? --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:10, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

:Yep, you're crazy. That's fine with me, though. :) --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:29, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

    Anything I can do?

Hi! I signed on as an online ambassador for this class, before realizing that you're clearly very organized and running a tight ship. Is there any way in which I can help, if you're open to that? sonia♫ 04:00, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

    To create a subpage

    Much easier than you think.

Feel free to experiment in your user space, but the simple thing is to create a page un the same manner as you would an ordinary page, but using the naming convention of a slash between main and sub page. This creates a true sub page.

User:Brianwc/This is a subpage is an example

If you need more help than this, please feel free to ask.

Moving a page to a subpage is simple a matter of using that convention when you make the move Fiddle Faddle (talk) 17:53, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

:An example might be User:Timtrent/A good article (ignore the content unless it amuses you, simply see it as an example). Fiddle Faddle (talk) 18:02, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Nomination for deletion of Template:Infobox United States District Court case

    Student copyvio

    Hi Brian,

Just a heads up I had to tag a student's article for deletion as it looks like all of the text at Maritz, Inc. v. Cybergold, Inc. was copy/pasted from here. I copied the only usable content, the infobox, to Natcha.s's talk page along with the standard templates and a message. --— Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:34, 22 February 2015 (UTC) (btw: I'm also User:Ryan (Wiki Ed), but came across the page while editing in a volunteer capacity)

:Follow-up: I see now that Wikia content is Creative Commons licensed by default. It does require attribution, though. But that was just fixed by adding an attribution template rather than deleting. Other wikis and sites that rely on user-generated content are not typically considered very reliable, though, and articles here really shouldn't exist as unsourced copy/pastes of other content. But again, none of those mandate deletion, so my apologies for characterizing the situation as a more serious problem than it was. --— Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:13, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Jane Doe No. 14 v. Internet Brands, Inc.

Hi, Brian. I just wanted to give you a head-up that the opinion in the case Jane Doe No. 14 v. Internet Brands, Inc., which one of your students created an article on, has been withdrawn by the Ninth Circuit, and will be re-argued in March. You may want to keep an eye on the news and the court and consider assigning (or suggesting; not sure how your course works) an update to the article when the new opinion issues. TJRC (talk) 21:46, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

    • Yes, I saw that. We'll be keeping an eye on it and may have a little class field trip to the new oral argument, but I'll be surprised if a new/revised opinion is out before this semester ends. We'll have to update the page whenever the court gets around to issuing that. Brianwc (talk) 03:25, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Nomination for merging of Template:Infobox United States District Court case

    Proposed deletion of :Wikindx

    File:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article :Wikindx has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is clearly WP:YESPROMO and a violation of WP:SPIP. This software does not have anywhere near the WP:GNG to be considered for a wikipedia page.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the proposed deletion/dated notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing proposed deletion/dated will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
