:* A request for comment asks whether partial blocks should be enabled on the English Wikipedia. If enabled, this functionality would allow administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces, rather than the entire site.
:*A proposal asks whether admins who don't use their tools for a significant period of time (e.g. five years) should have the toolset procedurally removed.
:*Following a successful RfC, a whitelist is now available for users whose redirects will be autopatrolled by a bot, removing them from the new pages patrol queue. Admins can add such users to Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist after a discussion following the guidelines at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist.

:* The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being {{tq|the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted}} rather than {{tq|reasonably construed}}.
:* Following the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: {{noping|Beeblebrox}}, {{noping|Bradv}}, {{noping|Casliber}}, {{noping|David Fuchs}}, {{noping|DGG}}, {{noping|KrakatoaKatie}}, {{noping|Maxim}}, {{noping|Newyorkbrad}}, {{noping|SoWhy}}, {{noping|Worm That Turned}}, {{noping|Xeno}}.

The Gloaming (tv series) revert
Why was this reverted? There was significant information added within the infobox and sources provided. All your reverting did was remove a lot of hard work - information obtained by looking at the credits in each episode.

The Gloaming (tv series)
How can the dates be wrong? It was officially released on Jan 1, 2020, never "broadcast", but made available to stream sometime before 10pm Dec 31, 2020. ISAN is a reference much like a production code as other tv series articles have. The article reads like a broken record as is, repeating the same information over and over in a couple of paragraphs. Why do you act like you own the entire article anyway? Anyone can contribute if I remember correctly.
--149.167.157.27 (talk) 09:07, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
The Gloaming
Okay look, I think maybe we both thought each other was being a bit rash with the article. Going forward I would like to bring it up to a good standard which I’m sure we can both do.

west oz meetup yesterday
we are interested in getting good maps from the meetup,
which involved more starts of regional categories/projects ...
(Kimberley and Pilbara already existed)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Western_Australia/Regional_Projects
so interested about producing maps for the regions - hopefully within the ambit of osm or whatever
there is a link -https://catalogue.data.wa.gov.au/dataset/regional-development-commission-boundaries
would that be a reasonable item to help create a more viable and usable map than https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Regions_of_Western_Australia.svg which hardly allows for breaking up into the regions or more detail
any thoughts? JarrahTree 04:19, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
:{{ping|JarrahTree}}: Sure, I would love to help with this! That link on the WA data catalogue was the same dataset I tried to send you a few months ago as a Google Maps KML, so yes, that's the one that any maps of the regions should use. The region boundaries have not been imported into OpenStreetMap, which is unfortunate as that would enable zoomable "slippy maps" using the Wikimaps service (which were discussed at length here). The map data is CC-BY 4.0 licenced but OSM would need explicit permission from Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to import it. I can produce any vector maps you need for Commons pretty easily though—such as maps of the region zoomed in, with the localities and main towns/cities visible and labelled—which might be the next best thing to an embedded map. I'll do some samples and get your thoughts or suggestions. There is another option too, which I haven't explored much but apparently it is possible to upload boundary vectors to Commons and link to Wikidata—but I don't know much about this yet... --Canley (talk) 05:12, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply, will get back to you on some of that soon... -- JarrahTree 10:56, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

[[Members of the Northern Territory Legislative Council, 1951–1954]]
Hello. I've just created Douglas Macinnis. In his Who's who biography, it states that he was a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Council during the period 1951–1952. However, he's not in this list. Is who's who wrong, or is the list incomplete? Cheers, Number 57 13:41, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Swingers
I have noticed there have been quite a few good faith edits to election results such as [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Results_of_the_2019_Australian_federal_election_in_Victoria&diff=prev&oldid=954730091 this one] changing the swing to simple arithmetic rather than adjusting for the redistribution. While these are easy enough to resolve as they come up - the swing is verified by the cited AEC source - it makes me wonder whether we should have something in the lead, not because it will reduce the number of misguided edits, but simply because its an indication that readers are looking at the numbers and asking the question. I was thinking something simple, but would need to find a reliable source. --Find bruce (talk) 07:03, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
:{{ping|Find bruce}} It's always difficult to explain the whole redistribution and notional results thing, and yes, a lot of good faith edits because it's so counter-intuitive and just looks wrong. I added a section about "Notional seat status" at Redistribution (Australia) a while ago. Probably worth mentioning in the intro of a results list for a state/territory which had a redistribution. It could point to that section, or one of Antony Green's calculation reports maybe? --Canley (talk) 06:30, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Translation clarification: [[zh:社區工作]] is not [[Youth worker]]
The article zh:社區工作 was wrongly linked to "Youth Worker" in English Wikipedia for a long period of time. While Youth Worker refers to the social worker focusing on youth service, the Chinese article shall be 青年工作者 (in Mandarin Chinese) [https://www.immicn.com.au/?p=3369 An information website for Chinese immigrants to Australia stating the translation of Youth Worker to 青年工作者] or 青年社工 (in Cantonese Chinese) while either one is not yet in zh-Wiki yet. On the other hand, 社區工作 (aka 社區實踐) exactly refers to a branch of social work that focuses on larger social systems and social change (i.e., not limited to Youth) and it should be the concept of community practice.

2020 NT Election Results
Hi Canley,
I noticed that you reverted my edit.I have reverted it back not to start an edit war but because I want to discuss each type of change I made and I can't be wrong on all of them. I will set out my thinking on each here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Results_of_the_2020_Northern_Territory_general_election#Changes_to_results_article
You were right to revert my edit. My bad I had forgotten the N/A landing point.
Cheers

Hello all from Greymouth! There are now a dozen of you from Australia and New Zealand signed up to help, which is wonderful. • The last week has seem some great work, especially from Schwede66, MurielMary, and DrThneed, busily creating categories, stubs, and some really nice articles like Hokitika Clock Tower • This last week I'll been in Greymouth, and gave a talk to the library staff, spoke to half a dozen tourism operators, and had a great edit-a-thon on Saturday, where the partcipants were so keen they organised another one in two weeks! • Check out Axel's reorganisation of the Greymouth category and see if there are photos that need articles. • The Greymouth article needs work, a gallery of historic buildings, and more references from news media and books. • Plenty of old buildings in the list to work on • Siobhan wants Wikidata for all NZ reserves, and I would like all tracks and walkways in Wikidata too, like the Rapahoe Range Scenic Reserve and Elizabeth Point Walkway – I took a bunch of photos there yesterday • Some of our new articles have been flagged (wrongly) because there weren't enough references yet; not to worry, but help if you can. I'm digging through local archives here for good sources. Here's a [https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CU9wg0YOOre6fWZ8OElxtrdEIVLLa7Mt Google drive] of local news stories by the way. • There'll be lots more photos going up in the next week so watch this space. In the meantime keep an eye on [https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFiles/Giantflightlessbirds&ilshowall=1 my uploads], photos from History House Museum, and more from the Grey District Library to see of there's something you can use. • Housekeeping: please do remember to jot down your contributions on the daily Progress Report, just so others can see and help out. Thank you all for you hard work! • Take care — Giantflightlessbirds

|Postcard from the West Coast Sunday 20 September: Westport |
Hi from Westport! The ridiculously nice weather has largely continued. According to Wikipedia the Holcim cement works is here, but I'm pretty sure it closed in 2016. Work needed on that article! • One result of [https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/seven-sharp/clips/why-does-wikipedia-paint-such-a-bad-picture-of-new-zealand-s-top-towns appearing on Seven Sharp] is that Tourism New Zealand and the Glacier tourism folks are now interested in chatting. Watch this space, I may be headed south soon. • MurielMary and DrThneed have been helping with the [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DmS8BKHgLBAs6ZFJeBTQdMc4rUb6ENAveJBJbkW-2qQ/edit?usp=sharing West Coast artists list], many thanks – I may have more print sources for bios. The [https://www.odt.co.nz/entertainment/books/remarkable-mentor-captured-well Yvonne Rust book] is good. • There's been some great teamwork this past week, with Canley and Schwede66 sorting out all the [https://w.wiki/crX West Coast heritage buildings in Wikidata without photos], and me running round Westport with my camera taking pics of them. • About half the Stewart Nimmo photos are uploaded, and keep an eye on [https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFiles/Giantflightlessbirds&ilshowall=1 my uploads] for more. Look for inventive uses: I added one to the selfie article. • I'll be working on Denniston Plateau, the Westport News, Becky Manawatu, EPIC Westport, the Kawatiri Coastal Trail, Granity, and Barrytown; all help appreciated. • This week I have a few more days at Westport and will do a day trip to Granity, then down to Hokitika on Friday for 10 days to work with the Museum and heritage groups. So do tackle Westport content this week; I can ask the Westport News for clippings if you need more sources. • Housekeeping: add what you do to the daily Progress Report, so we can all see and help! • Take care — Giantflightlessbirds

Special Minister of State
Note that the Department of the Special Minister of State (SMOS - pronounced to rhyme with "moss") really was a government department back in the day. Unlike other countries, the constitution doesn't permit ministers without portfolio. Bob Hawke pioneered allowing more than one minister to administer a single department, so the SMOS is now in Finance portfolio. But it used to be a separate department. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:16, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
:{{ping|Hawkeye7}} I know it does. However, the reference I added says: "Under the arrangement established in 1987 there were 17 Cabinet ministers. Of this number, only one did not head a department—the Special Minister of State, Senator Susan Ryan, who was located in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet with responsibilities for the Office of the Status of Women, the Bicentennial and the Australia Card." Not that she had no portfolio, but was in Cabinet although with the roles of a junior minister within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. --Canley (talk) 06:25, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
::Thanks for that! Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:28, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
:::The reference you posted also says: "After the 1987 election, Hawke moved her from education, while keeping her in cabinet as special minister of state without a department of her own." --Canley (talk) 06:29, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

|Postcard from the West Coast Sunday 27 September: Hokitika |
Greetings from sunny Hokitika! The fine weather I've had for the last few weeks finally broke and it's been driving hail and wind today. • Last week in Westport was fun, talking to many local historians and photographers, and the Westport News (rewritten article) • Saturday I ran a workshop in Hokitika, yesterday a second one in Greymouth. One newbie improved the Dave McKenzie (runner) article and squealed when her changes showed up instantly in Google. Another ran out to take photos of the Pioneers' Memorial (right), and Schwede66 created an article that very night • This week I'd love help with Hokitika-area articles: sculptures of Hokitika, buildings of Hokitika, Guy Menzies, Hokitika Guardian (am meeting them tomorrow to get better sources), whitebait (the NZ aspect), Kaniere, Lake Kaniere, pounamu, Lake Mahinapua, Hokitika Gorge, The Luminaries, and the Hokitika River. This is a list brainstormed with the locals at the workshop, heartily recommend doing this. • There are more photos by Stewart Nimmo of Lake Brunner and Reefton (including the artist {{Q|Q99304897}}, who's on our list. • It would be super helpful of somebody to look at the [https://wikishootme.toolforge.org/#lat=-42.716674438386235&lng=170.9666633605957&zoom=13 Hokitika area on WikiShootMe] and check the locations of rivers, hills, etc against [https://www.topomap.co.nz/NZTopoMap?v=2&ll=-42.71721,170.96371&z=12 NZ Topo Map] or the [https://gazetteer.linz.govt.nz NZGB Gazetteer]. • Dr Thneed wanted a photo through the altar window of St James Church, Franz Josef, and that same day Paora supplied one. Great teamwork, folks – it's been so nice to watch you collaborate. • Housekeeping: keep noting your contributions on the daily Progress Report. Thank you all for your hard work. • Stay warm and dry! — Giantflightlessbirds

Kia ora from Hokitika! Tomorrow I pack up the car and head to Greymouth to present to Development West Coast our previous month's work, before heading south • Yes, Glacier Country are supplying accommodation in south Westland – Ōkārito, Franz Josef, and Fox – for the next two weeks. Possibly because I [https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexledsom/2020/10/03/improving-wikipedia-pages-leads-to-big-tourist-dollars/#1e8ba8ac438c mouthed off to the media] that Fox Glacier's entry is so short who would want to stay there? • So this week it's Ōkārito (splitting the article into settlement and lagoon), kōtuku, spoonbills, the {{Q|Q99767675}}, rowi, Franz Josef glacier (and NZ glacier photos in general glacier articles), historic buildings thereabouts, etc • I uploaded lots of Stewart Nimmo photos of the Haast area, and have some Paparoa ones by Jase Blair coming soon. • Pakoire noticed that {{Q|Q99836010}} needs an article – can we collaborate on one? He's def notable and we need more coverage of Māori from the Coast. • Also women: see the Westland women in the [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Q1cla7qfz1qVMchCQ7KY8V9a5R51_kqPNZM5V3rC8QI/edit?usp=sharing WikiProject Hokitika Museum] Google doc and [https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11BWphmLlRA8Wzxfstv6A9mM7KHdsD2C0 Hokitika Museum Google drive]. • Last week I wrote or improved articles about Hokitika Museum, Lake Kaniere, History House Museum, Lake Mahinapua, and Westland District Library. Error check, cleanup etc welcome. It's great to be able to work from folders and scrapbooks stuffed full of newspaper clippings! • Housekeeping: Thank you all for collaborating and filling in gaps, especially with historic buildings. Paora has been doing some great work. Please keep letting me know of any photos you need taking on the spot. • Take care — Giantflightlessbirds

Gidday from Franz Josef/Waiau! Deserted tourist town, everything's a bit pricey, but there are kea circling over the main street which makes up for a lot • I just spent three days in Ōkārito, wrote articles about pakihi and Ōkārito lagoon, and took/was given a lot of photos of Kōtuku and hiking trails. A dearth of printed sources on Ōkārito but there are enough photos and info to make at least sections/galleries for buildings like {{Q|Q79300924}}, {{Q|Q79303038}}, and {{Q|Q79309599}} on its article • There are too many photos of Franz Josef glacier! It would be great to make a curated gallery of the most useful ones on its Commons page. Also finding and uploading good photos from [https://digitalnz.org/records?text=Franz%20Josef&i%5Busage%5D=Use%20commercially&tab=Images#/ DigitalNZ] and the [http://kohika.canterbury.ac.nz/opac_canterbury/SCRIPTS/mwimain.dll?UNIONSEARCH&APPLICATION=UNION_VIEW&LANGUAGE=144&ERRMSG=erreur.htm&EXP=D_ACCNO%201065 Macmillan Brown A. |Final Postcard from the West Coast Friday 23 October:Reefton |
Kia ora koutou from Reefton! • We're in the last few days of the project, so time to wrap up loose ends. • Most of the last week I was based in in Fox Glacier, organising photo uploads from Fox Glacier Guiding of the glacier itself and Chancellor Hut, check them out • I've also photographed hiking trails and worked on articles about the West Coast Wildlife Centre, Lake Gault and Lake Matheson • Here in Reefton I'm improving the article about the town, have found info on the Inangahua County Library for DrThneed, and am writing about the Reefton Distillery • There are photos of all of Reeftons's historic buildings (and I've added a few), but no articles about the Reefton Courthouse or the Reefton School of Mines, and the Reefton Power Station article could do with work • Since I last wrote DrThneed has been hard at work on libraries, there's a nice Donovan's Store article from Gertrude206, much-needed improvements to pounamu by Pakoire, and Paora's been super-industrious with historic buildings but most importantly managed to produce a photo of the giant sandfly of Pukekura • Housekeeping: I'm sending out prizes kindly donated by Development West Coast and Friends of Waiuta to those of you who've worked hardest on the project, so if I ask for a postal address that's why. But even if you just signed up to get these postcards, that's fine too! • Thank you all for making a wonderful project work; I've never coordinated a team effort like this, and I think it's potentially a model for other edit-a-thons. Its been great fun. And I hope this has inspired you to keep chipping away, improving the coverage of New Zealand's beautiful West Coast. Ka kite ano, — Giantflightlessbirds |

Because of the way New Zealand 1948 British Nationality and NZ Citizenship Act is worded his mother was a full New Zealand citizen and not a citizen by descent. This is not a novel idea - it is called the law. The New Zealand legislation is written in plain English, even back in 1948. A law that is 72 years old is not novel.

why did you revert my edit
maintenance
thanks for your work on west oz politics related items
so what have I been saying recently about maintenance, bit like the saying last one out turn the light off, we're having to update the perth (and I just had a sneak look at melbourne... what a mess) politics articles. Like I say it is not the gee whizz creating articles, it is the long term maintenance and updating that actually is where the effort is needed, imho... heheheh (to use one of your expressions) JarrahTree 04:13, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Derby
Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation states "For English words and names, pronunciation should normally be omitted for common words or when obvious from the spelling". Derby, Western Australia and Derby, Tasmania are pronounced the same way they are spelt, so the pronunciation should not be on those pages. Kind regards, JJK2000 (talk) 13:58, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
:{{ping|JJK2000}} I am well aware of what that page says, and you mentioned it repeatedly in your edit comments. I gave my reasoning in the summary – many Australian towns are named after British ones, so it is entirely worth noting that the Tasmanian and WA locations are not pronounced in the same way as Derby, so it could be said that the Australian towns are "names with counterintuitive pronunciation" (as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation). In addition, the word "Derby" (as a name or other terms such as "derby match") are pronounced differently in British and American English, so there is no "direct contravention" of WP:MOSPRON and it's not as simple/cut-and-dried as you claim, just because these pronunciations seem to match the phonetic spelling. You made a bold edit, that's fine, other editors disagreed, we're now in the "discuss" part of the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle so I suggest you raise the topic (at WP:AWNB or Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Pronunciation and gain consensus for your edit rather than edit-warring, and throwing rules at experienced editors. --Canley (talk) 14:13, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Apologies Re: Endorsement Tables
Hi Canley,
I hope you are doing well and staying safe.
Just wanted to send an apology for not getting the memo regarding endorsement tables as discussed in the Upper Hunter by-election. I was basing this off elections in the United States but I think the impacts are probably less felt here in Australia. However, would endorsements have a potential space for state or federal elections? I created one for the 2021 Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch) leadership election but I think the scope has much more weight there but obviously there is consensus in the Upper Hunter page.
Once again, many apologies.
APNOneTwo (talk) 02:56, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
:{{ping|APNOneTwo}} No need to apologise! I guess there were two main issues with the endorsement tables in the Upper Hunter case: the lack of references, and the obviousness of MPs supporting their own party's candidate. I think it could be appropriate for a party leadership election as you suggest. For general (federal or state) elections, I don't know what the consensus would be, but if you can address the issues with referencing and exclude obvious supports (Turnbull or Hewson supporting a non-Liberal candidate would probably be notable and have media coverage, as would major companies, celebrities and other non-politicians who clearly indicate support for a party or candidate) there could be support for such an inclusion. --Canley (talk)
Yes, that makes very much sense, I still feel very new to the whole editing game even though I have been in and around for a few years so many thanks again! Just another question :{{ping|Canley}} but what did you think of adding the "majority" or margin an MP has in their infobox? Do you think this would be an applicable parameter in Australian Politics for Lower House Members?? I understand here IRV does mean a difference between PVs and TCPs compared to say the UK where it is FPTP. Let me know your thoughts! APNOneTwo (talk) 04:17, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

:*IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you.

Lost in wikipedia - a deleted newbie
Gday.
You deleted my first ever edit on wikipedia (school without walls), straight away. Rather discouraging, as there was no communication (that I am aware of) and I have no idea why it was done. Is this the place to have a conversation about this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Social Evolutionary (talk • contribs) 09:03, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
:{{ping|Social Evolutionary}} Hi thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry for making your first editing experience an unpleasant one. After I reverted it I realised it was your first edit and was just about to send you a message to welcome you and explain the reasons, but I got called away and am currently writing this on my phone. If you can give me an hour or two to get to a proper keyboard I’ll message you on your talk page. - Canley (talk) 09:24, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Possible help for a new Wikipedia editor
Hello! I am currently new to Wikipedia editing, having taken up a university course where we are encouraged to work on a stub article and turn it into a B- or C-class article. I have noticed that you are relatively active on here, and are a member of the Australian history WikiProject. I have chosen Peter Nicol Russell who was a Scottish/Australian engineer and philanthropist in the 1800's. If you had the chance, would you mind assisting me with providing some advice on the article via its talk page? I'm also looking for someone to review and grade the article per the Australian history WikiProject or the Biography WikiProject guidelines if you (/you know anyone who) can help Many thanks!! WikiProject update - Performing Arts Aotearoa 12 May 2022
A year after the Performing Arts Aotearoa project started and as we are coming into winter (a busier editing time for many) here is an update.
The Performing Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject now lives on the WikiProject New Zealand page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_New_Zealand/Performing_Arts_Aotearoa
I have added new articles created as part of the Pacific Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject. These articles by new editors include Lusi Faiva, Suli Moa, Edith Amituanai and Amanaki Prescott-Faletau, who was interviewed on Radio New Zealand last Sunday. The reporter let me know the article was valuable for the interview research – great feedback for all of us creating and improving content in Wikipedia.
On the project page is highlighted plenty of articles to create or improve. I invite you to have a look and contribute if you can. There are many long-standing festivals in Aotearoa without articles such as the Hawkes Bay Arts Festival, Tauranga Festival of the Arts, Taranaki International Arts Festival, Nelson Arts Festival and the Christchurch Arts Festival. Creating these Wikipedia pages or Wikidata items allows links to biographies and strengthens the weaving of Wikipedia.
Other suggestions for new articles:
- Notable women - Jane Yonge, Amber Cureen, Eleanor Bishop (director)
- Director of the Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival and musician - Tama Waipara
- Notable theatre companies - Prayas Theatre, The Conch (theatre company), Barbarian Productions
Reach out to me if you want guidance on any aspects of Wikipedia, or a collegial conversation about writing encyclopaedic entries on performing arts. I can set up a zoom, or direct you to places for help.
Please try to remember to add any relevant articles improved or created to the lists on the project page so the impact can be seen. Take your name off the project page if you don’t want to get these sporadic updates. I will keep an eye on new articles and I have an ongoing campaign to get more images uploaded so we can illustrate the articles too. I have resources on Wikimedia Commons if you are interested. Feel free to contact me on my talk page.
Another thing
Any good reason why Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australia is named Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board? I've never seen that before, and it sort of sends a "You don't belong here!" message to editors like myself, not being an Australian Wikipedian. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:13, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Sydney
Your change has been reverted. I have rifgt to use this template in the article. There are several points of debate on this matter Also, this is breach fundamental rules of Wikipedia, i.e. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. If there are different sources, and only some of them describe the name "Gabi" as the Greater Sydney, other sources show as City of Sydney or/and Sydney CBD, the problem must to be describe in the article in the section. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view is one of Wikipedia:Core content policies who say: "This policy are not superseded by other policies or guidelines, or by any editors' consensus". You are not allowed to delete a template without fully resolving the issues discussed in the discussion. Subtropical-man (✉ | en-2) 10:24, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
:Also, your descripton of changes is completely wrong. No consensus was reached, and several dozen percent of RfC users were against (oppose). Besides, the RfC does not address the issues described in the Sydney discussion (POV, selecting several sources from many to be in accordance with the opinion of several people). Your description of the changes is completely wrong. Besides, the "description of changes" is not a place for discussion. Subtropical-man (✉ | en-2) 11:02, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
40px You write about me in practically all your comments. You're attacking me because I presented a problem. You write slanders, lies, manipulations and guesses about me to show me in the worst possible light. These are personal attacks and harassment per Wikipedia:Harassment. Please stop writing about me on the article talk page. If you have any suggestions about my behavior, please write in my user talk page. This is a serious accusation, so take it to heart. You attack me from the very beginning of this discuss. Stop personal attacks and harassment. This is a last warning. In Talk:Sydney discuss only the problem of the sources and the article. Sankey diagrams illustrating preference flows
Hi there, I noticed you created a Sankey diagram illustrating preference flows for the 2020 Eden-Monaro by-election. I found this diagram really fascinating and was hoping to make a few as well for some Australian electorates with interesting preference flows like Macnamara. I was just wondering what software or website you used to create your Sankey diagrams? Also if you had a chance, I would be grateful if you had any tips with creating these graphs. Cheers! Happy Fifteenth Adminship Anniversary!
[[WP:INVOLVED]]
I was about to warn both of you for edit warring (since you were both reverting without explanation) when I saw that you, an admin, had not only violated 3RR (the edit was not clearly vandalism), but had then used your tools to protect the page, in clear violation of WP:INVOLVED. Both of those actions are totally unacceptable. I am quite shocked actually. Mako001 (C) (T) 🇺🇦 02:14, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

Prosperosity created Wikidata items and Commons categories for most of Hokitika's public sculpture, and I added over 100 photos and more items • Hoping to tag along on a kōtuku tour, but I'm also approaching photographers who've taken [https://tikitouringnz.blogspot.com/2016/12/white-herons-of-waitangiroto.html good pics of the colony] about releasing their work for Commons • We should improve the kōtuku and Waitangiroto River articles with journal articles—and the Whataroa River and Waitangitāhuna River articles could do with a tidy up (there's a [http://www.thebookshelf.auckland.ac.nz/docs/Tane/Tane-17/23%20Results%20of%20the%20Waitangitaona.pdf great article] in Tane about how the former split in two, and the implications for the Waitangiroto) • Coming up are the Glacier Country tourism articles: can I recommend Lynley Hargreaves' [https://www.pottonandburton.co.nz/product/vanishing-ice/ new book] Vanishing Ice as a reference? • [https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Gillespies_Beach_Beginnings Gillespies Beach Beginnings] is recently transcribed and available in Wikisource as well • Keep at it folks, and I'll drop you a line in a week and a bit. — Giantflightlessbirds |

Postcard from the Coast

|Postcard from the West Coast Wednesday 8 Nov, 2023 |
A bit of a gap since the last postcard, but what a great time we've had with the Wikipedian at Large project in the interim • The highlight has been having Marshall and Lyn join me on the West Coast for a few days, visiting Fox Glacier and Whataroa • We now have good photo collections for the newly-created Waitangiroto Nature Reserve, and a a much improved article with galler • The Whataroa article has been improved with local history and links to the White Herons • We also have much better coverage of Fox Glacier, including new Ngāi Tahu viewing place Te Kopikopiko o te Waka, and photos of Te Weheka Walkway/Cycleway and the South Side Walkway/Cycleway • Could I get you all to check back through your contributions and add anything extra you've done to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/WestCoastWPAL/2023_Weekly_Progress

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
File:Wikimedia-Meetup-GoldenBay-Mohua-09.jpg
Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, travelling to and from Wellington. Get in quick.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 19:14, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.
