File:Information.svg Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to :Edmonton: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. jolielover♥talk 17:51, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.

Happy editing! Cheers, jolielover♥talk 17:59, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Signatures

Hi, I just saw some warnings you gave - please be sure to sign your messages when you are editing the source code of the page (it's not automatic then).

Instructions on how to do that are available at WP:SIGN, but in short: just add ~~~~ at the end of your message. – 2804:F1...BA:8B28 (::/32) (talk) 21:39, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

:Will do, thanks Gcarrell (talk) 21:43, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

::Please don't add the template {{tl|time}}... I'm not sure what is happening, but some of your warnings have that before the signature - it isn't needed, the default signature already has a timestamp, and further that's the current time, it updates when the cache does, so it's not correct to have it. – 2804:F1...BA:8B28 (::/32) (talk) 03:02, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

:::Corrected, thank you! Gcarrell (talk) 04:05, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

:Just a further reminder to sign your posts (I was prompted by [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:SNPlover94&diff=prev&oldid=1269427908 this]). Cordless Larry (talk) 18:19, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

::Thank you for catching that! I must have inadvertently missed that by mistake. I went back and signed it. Gcarrell (talk) 18:22, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hey,

You flagged me for vandalism eight minutes ago yet I didn't vandalise anything HollyCatherine (talk) 17:43, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

=Response=

Hi HollyCatherine, I marked it as potential vandalism, but noted that it might have been in good faith. Sometimes it is difficult to tell whether an edit is vandalism or just not in the style guide. The edit in question, and why I marked it, was:

"as well as archetypes and allegory provide an element of p"

It did not have the proper punctuation and removed a lot of the article, which led me to think it was also section blanking. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Also, for your reference, here is a link to the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Inappropriate edits and warnings

Please stop posting inappropriate warnings to users. Please stop making invalid edits to articles, such as you have repeatedly done to Donald Neilson — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.214.220.199 (talkcontribs)

:I'm guessing your definition of 'invalid edits' is reverting your mass changing of articles from American to British English. There's no specific style as to which variant is used, and mass changing them does more harm than good, since most American-related articles use American English and vice versa. Aydoh8[contribs] 18:07, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

::No one needs to guess. This user is repeatedly changing the spelling in an article about a British subject; that is invalid, including by EngVar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gcarrell (talkcontribs) 18:22, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

  • {{u|Aydoh8}} and Gcarrell, although in general Wikipedia does not give preference to any national variety of English over others, in some cases there is a good reason for using one national variety; for example in the article Winston Churchill it makes sense to use British English, while in the article San Fransisco it makes sense to use US English. In such cases it is not acceptable to change content of an article to comply with one's own preferences. Since Donald Neilson was British, the article Donald Neilson should use British English. JBW (talk) 18:22, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
  • :I am not going to lie, I have actually never seen it spelled "foetal" before and thought it was just vandalism, so I reverted. According to https://sapling.ai/usage/fetal-vs-foetal, even in the United Kingdom "fetal" is preferred but "foetal" is sometimes used. Gcarrell (talk) 18:27, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

:::Your ignorance of the spelling of foetal does not explain your other multiple unexplained edits such as https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Donald_Neilson&diff=prev&oldid=1269438691

::::Your are strongly recommended to review https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Article_titles#National_varieties_of_English, and to consider what is and is not vandalism.

::::Similarly you are strongly recommended to always use edit summaries.

::::And please stop posting warnings to others when, by your own admission, you have limited experience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.214.220.199 (talk) 18:34, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Fair enough, it is a good point since it is a British Article. On the page you might want to clean up some of the broken links in the References section. Happy editing! Gcarrell (talk) 18:36, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

:And fetal is NOT prefered to the UK. Foetal is standard for example [https://www.england.nhs.uk/digitaltechnology/connecteddigitalsystems/exemplars/global-digital-exemplars-case-studies/digital-monitoring/]

Twinkle

Hi! Have you considered activating WP:TWINKLE? The benefit is that it enables you to revert multiple consecutive edits with a single click. For example, on :Recording Industry Association of America, a new editor made two bad edits, but your undo only reverted the latest one. Another benefit is that you can configure it to automatically open the talk page for the editor that you're reverting and provides a dropdown to choose from the warning templates. Just thought I'd suggest Twinkle since you seem to be doing a lot of anti-vandalism work. (I took care of the other bad edit to RIAA, btw.) Schazjmd (talk) 20:54, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

:I just wanted to come back after using WP:TWINKLE for a month and thank you for this amazing tip! It has been incredibly useful. Gcarrell (talk) 16:59, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Tufts football season articles

Gcarrell, I appreciate your enthusiasm in creating a number of Tufts football season articles, like 2016 Tufts Jumbos football team and 2024 Tufts Jumbos football team, which {{u|Cbl62}} brought to my attention on another editor's talk page. Tufts is my alma mater, although I saw precisely one Jumbos football game at Ellis Oval in my four years, during parent's weekend of my freshman year in 1996. I was usually in my dorm room or apartment watching the Michigan Wolverines play on TV! :) That being said, the articles you created were not in good shape when you left them. Most importantly, you do not want to create any new Wikipedia article, particularly an NCAA Division III football season article, without substantiating the notability of the subject by providing references to reliable independent sources. The university's own athletic website may be reliable for verifying some details, but it is not independent and cannot establish notability. Non-championship Division III football seasons like these are probably bettered served as bundled decade articles, like Stony Brook Seawolves football, 1984–1998 or Buena Vista football, 1898–1909, rather than as stand-alone articles. Additionally, you omitted relevant standings templates like Template:2024 New England Small College Athletic Conference football standings and had a bunch of other formatting errors. "record" is not field in Template:CFB schedule entry. And in those schedule tables, you want to make use of Template:Cfb link for opponents if and when there is no specific season article for that opponent. You can check out my cleanup edits to the 2016 and 2024 articles. Let me know if you have questions about any of this stuff. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 22:52, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
