China Eastern is planning to fly to O'Hare from March 18, 2016 as per http://airlineroute.net/2015/11/11/mu-ord-mar16/ (the source states that the airline has opened reservations for this route) but it keeps getting removed from the destinations table and in the prospective flights section. New routes are available in the booking system of the airline, canceled routes are removed from the booking system of the airlines, but there's no way to reference directly into the airlines booking system. Sorry, but I don't really think that orthodromic distance was anywhere in question before AI 173. The only thing that matters is the distance that the flight travels, and not the direct distance between 2 cities.

Several examples:

1. In record flights, PIA flight should also not be there, as the direct distance was much smaller than 21000 km.

2. For QF-8 the direct distance is 8,024 miles but in the list, it's listed as 8,578 miles which is the route that it takes.

3. Similarly, for all the flights the distance is slightly more than perpendicular distance, but the actual distance that flight takes is considered. In cases of other flights, this is near the perpendicular distance but in case of AI 173, the actual distance is much more (over 15,100 KM or 2400 KM more than direct distance).

(Sorry for sounding a bit rude) but the word orthodromic was not in the article before yesterday, and it should not be there now either.

Therefore, I have reverted your edit. Thanks!

I can also see that you have taken great circle distance or orthodromic distance, a theoretical figure, as the standard for measuring flight length. Please provide a reliable source, it could be any individual or organization related to civil aviation and recognized worldwide, that could state in writing that the actual distance covered by a flight does not matter. I have gone through your entries on the talk page and (respectfully) disagree with all of them. We cannot be accounting for world records based on theoretical values. If we must use the great circle distance, then can we also measure the length of certain historical flights like "Solar Impulse" by their orthodromic distance? Please be unbiased and objective in your approach. The removal of AI 173 is uncalled for. I did not decide that on myself, the Wikipedia community of contributors did. Why? I see two main reasons: the orthodromic distance doesn't change over the time, while the actual distance flown changes at every flight, and people fly to travel from A to B, two places separated by a certain distance, they don't fly to travel a certain actual flown distance. Hi! Im FlyingScotsman72 and I undid when you took away the information about the the longest train from Moscow to Pyongyang. P.S Also, one of the points of wikipedia is that people can come on here to find information quickly. ::The copyright issue was with the logo, which was a direct download from the TAP site without a fair use rationale. As for the name change, unless it has been announced and has a citation (not an "example of use on their website") then it should not be changed here. There was an official change of name in 2005, press release, the whole nine yards. Wikipedia cannot make such a name change on our own without a source to counter it. Hi!

I've seen a recent edit that you changed some airlines' terminals at Charles de Gaulle Airport. I wondered how you know these terminal changes, for example, Air Canada and Norwegain Air Shuttle moving out of Terminal 1 for 2B and 2D respectively and Air Serbia, Air Tahiti Nui and easyJet also relocating operations from Terminal 2B to 2D. Previously, Air Canada did not publish the move from 1 to 2B on their website and you know they moved to 2B. Can you cite a source to proof you are right? Hi Slasher-fun!

I want to talk about an issue about what happened with the Charles de Gaulle Airport wikipedia page. 4 Star Alliance airlines never moved to CDG Terminal 1 when it reopened in December 2022: Air China, Ethiopian Airlines, Thai Airways International (all currently at Terminal 2E) and Croatia Airlines (was at Terminal 2B before 18 April 2023, but currently at 2D) (although Air China and Thai Airways used Terminal 1 prior to the pandemic but did not plan to move back when it reopened). An anonymous IP removed this information and only made one CDG Star Alliance exception. Should we block this user? I've added a source of which Star Alliance carriers moved back to Terminal 1.
