This is not encyclopaedic content. I suspect that it is either a hoax or non-notable, but if it belongs anywhere (which I doubt), then it should be at Wiktionary. GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 21:38, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Keep This should not be deleted in regards to: Wikipedia is not a dictionary or guide to slang, and no evidence is provided that this neologism is in general use, or any use, as there are plenty of slang words listed in Wikipedia, such as Spic. Look that up and then flag it for deletion, if you can make that happen then you must be a magical person, like a wizard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kbyte9001 (talkcontribs) 22:29, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment I moved this comment down here because it appeared to be interfering with the normal listing on the AfD page. --/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 02:22, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Delete Wikipedia is not a WP:DICT Artene50 (talk) 02:24, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Delete and redirect as a plausible typo for Ukrainian 70.51.10.4 (talk) 07:30, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Delete as non-notable and non-verifiable. Also note that the author's only reason for keeping appears to boil down to WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS which is not a valid reason for keeping or deleting material. Jasynnash2 (talk) 11:12, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Delete. Seems like a joke. I'm from the UK, and live elsewhere - nobody says this. Even if they did, wikipedia is not a slang dictionary.Yobmod (talk) 12:06, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Delete as non-notable neologism. And I could not find any evidence of the word's coiner, the noted crossword puzzle champion Don Witrow. DCEdwards1966 18:08, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Keep As a UKanian, I am often called this on my trips to America. It is not offensive, nor rude. I actually find it quite charming. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.234.75.38 (talk) 19:26, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep Non encyclopeadic content? Havent we as a society updated both our encyclopedias and dictionaries to include new words, including ebonics words? This is how a society grows and expands, as well as communicates across borders and cultures!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.234.75.38 (talk) 14:32 24 June 2008
  • Keep Again deletion upon the basis that Wikipedia is not a slang dictionary doesn't hold water. Vato, beaner, and wetback are listed in Wikipedia. Also do a search in Google and you can clearly see the term Ukanian pops up frequently. How does a term like beaner make it into Wikipedia, but you put up a firewall against Ukanian?? This makes no sense, I'm not from the UK, but work with plenty of Ukanians and I will have them voice their opinions on this proposed deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.234.75.38 (talk) 17:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep This is a name used by many people I know. It is not meant as offensive, nor rude. It is generally used along the same lines as calling someone America, Australian, German etc etc....
How do we come up with new names, and or words if it is not for individuals that are creative??

  • Note to closing admin' {{user|24.234.75.38}} has made repeated !votes of keep in such a way as to confuse SineBot into only signing some of the comments. Additionally, has posted false signatures for other IPs that have not contributed to the discussion in order to mask its own repeated !votes. --/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 23:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • I feel this word is valid and should be kept. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaydeecruz (talkcontribs) 23:42, 24 June 2008Zaydeecruz (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
  • KeepWe have not posted sig to some or false signatures. Those accusations are inaccurate. Our office has more than 10 people in it, and we checked with our Techie team. They stated that when we use the internet, our IP is logged as one in the same. There is no malice or misintent going on. We all use this term for our UK partners, and wanted to keep this definition going. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaydeecruz (talkcontribs) 23:51, 24 June 2008
  • Keep We have offices in the United Kingdom and have dealt with a number of people that have used the term Ukanian for either themselves or others from that region. These people do not find it offensive to be called or call others from the UK as Ukanians. I believe that keeping this entry would be in the best interest of global education, displaying the most current changes to our society. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.234.75.38 (talk) 23:43, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Response to all above I understand that you may have heard the word or used it before. I think this is entirely possible. The problem with that is the article violates two of the most important criteria for inclusion, Verifiability and No Original Research. If you can provide attestation evidence of the word in such a way that it satisfies the neologism guideline, then I'm sure we'll all reconsider our delete !votes. Until that time, this article should be deleted. --/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 00:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
  • For the record, I have noticed similarities in the votes, comments and editing patterns of three users involved in this discussion, and have filed a sockpuppetry complaint against them. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 00:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep Most of the modern words we use today - started out as slang. If a number of people above have heard or used it - I don't think Wikipedia should delete the term. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.173.155.210 (talk) 04:46, 25 June 2008 (UTC) 70.173.155.210 (talk) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

  • Rewrite if proper sources can be found We may be able to meet WP:NEO here. I've found some sources, but these do not support the picture painted by the above IPs/users. For example, the essay "Multi-Culturalism and Northern Ireland: Making Differences Fruitful" by Edna Longley, in Multi-culturalism: The View from the Two Irelands (Edna Longley, Declan Kiberd, {{ISBN|1859183115}}), contains specifically mentions "Ukanian" and says "Ukania" is "Tom Nairn's derisive term for the United Kingdom". Checking Google Scholar... there are sources there. I'm not sure if they can pass WP:NEO, but I think there's something here. Could someone else assist? --/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 23:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
