:Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary categorization. There isn't another state with this type tennis subcategory ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 22:55, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
:Oppose Just split more--I started this scheme but haven't finished it. There are a lot of American tennis players and this keeps them from being in the scheme of American coaches by sport and state. ―Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 23:14, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

:* Propose merging :Category:Ukrainian people of the Thirty Years' War to :Category:People of the Thirty Years' War
:Nominator's rationale: upmerge per WP:SMALLCAT, currently only one article. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:31, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Delete -- The participation of the one person in the war appears to be rather marginal, as a member of a Cossack regiment serving in France. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:38, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Upmerge per nom No reason to subdivide by nationality in this war. Dimadick (talk) 09:12, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- Delete - the guy was a Cossack; Ukranian is a modern term which is wrongly anachronistically applied.GreyShark (dibra) 16:28, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

:* Propose renaming :Category:Ukrainian military personnel of the Khmelnytsky Uprising to :Category:Zaporozhian Cossack military personnel of the Khmelnytsky Uprising
:Nominator's rationale: rename, replacing an anachronistic nationality by contemporary 17th-century terminology. The Khmelnytsky Uprising was clearly a rebellion of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. If renamed, we should also add or change some parent categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:24, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

: - Marcocapelle (talk) 12:27, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Agree Yes I agree the category should be renamed to Zaporozhian Cossacks as it was primarily a Cossack centered conflict and yes the term Ukrainian is an anachronistic nationality during the 17th-century as the native population were referred to as Ruthenians. Shotgun pete (talk) 1:28, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Agree but could we simplify it to :Category:Zaporozhian Cossack soldiers of the Khmelnytsky Uprising. There was only an army, no navy or air force and presumably no female soldiers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterkingiron (talk • contribs)
- Support - per nom. Nothing to add, just fix this anachronism.GreyShark (dibra) 16:29, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

:* Propose merging :Category:Viking Age in Scotland to :Category:Scandinavian Scotland
:Nominator's rationale: merge or reverse merge, it is unclear how to distinguish between the two categories. I have tagged both categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:19, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Merge or reverse merge -- Both are about :Category:Scandinavian rule in Scotland. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:47, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Neither Marcocapelle, nor Peterkingiron seem to have read main article Scandinavian Scotland, which covers the entire period from the 8th to the 15th century. Orkney and Shetland were controlled by Norway until 1472, while the Viking Age had ended in the 11th century. Dimadick (talk) 09:19, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
:: I did read it, but I can 't see how it helps the Scottish tree to have a break in the 11th century while Scandinavian rule lasted much longer here. Any break, whether in 1000 or in 1100, would be entirely arbitrary. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:23, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- Merge to {{ping|Peterkingiron}} suggestion of :Category:Scandinavian rule in Scotland. Who's to say when the Viking Age began or ended? Rule is quantifiable. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:51, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- Comment See main article Viking Age, which states with sources that it began in 789 (the first known Viking raid) and ends with the death of Harald Hardrada in 1066. While Norse people, Normans, and various offshoots continued to play a role in European politics, Vikings did not survive the 11th century. "The assimilation of the nascent Scandinavian kingdoms into the cultural mainstream of European Christendom altered the aspirations of Scandinavian rulers and of Scandinavians able to travel overseas, and changed their relations with their neighbours. One of the primary sources of profit for the Vikings had been slave-taking. The medieval Church held that Christians should not own fellow Christians as slaves, so chattel slavery diminished as a practice throughout northern Europe. This took much of the economic incentive out of raiding, though sporadic slaving activity continued into the 11th century. Scandinavian predation in Christian lands around the North and Irish Seas diminished markedly.". Dimadick (talk) 16:16, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- I can imagine that a distinction could be made between occasional Viking raids on the one hand (e.g. for getting slaves) and Norse permanent occupation and colonisation of territories on the other hand. However for Scotland specifically this distinction does not make too much sense, since parts of Schotland were subject to occupation and colonisation all the time. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:01, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- Merge as proposed - to fit article Scandinavian Scotland.GreyShark (dibra) 16:56, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

:Nominator's rationale: That a species (e.g. Savannah forest tree frog, Berber toad, Sahara frog) is found in a particular country is WP:NON-DEFINING. Example similar CFDs. DexDor (talk) 10:01, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Comment, there are a whole lot more categories that might be added to this nomination, see :Category:Amphibians by country. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:13, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
::The 3 I've nominated are the only amphibians-by-region categories in those parts of Africa. There are about another hundred (e.g. ACT, French Guiana) - that's IMO too many to cfd in one go - especially when complications are considered (e.g. countries such as Turkey that span 2 continents). DexDor (talk) 06:39, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
:::Comment We have a List of transcontinental countries, but few modern countries qualify, only 28. They are: Australia, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Denmark (with Greenland), East Timor, Egypt, France, Georgia, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, the United States, Venezuela, and Yemen. Our list notably excludes Armenia and Cyprus, which are also considered Eurasian: "The Council of Europe includes the Eurasian countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia, Russia and Turkey. It notes that "two Council of Europe member States, Turkey and Russia, belong geographically to both Europe and Asia and are therefore Eurasian. Strictly speaking, the three South Caucasus States, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are located in Asia, yet their membership of political Europe is no longer in doubt." "Dimadick (talk) 09:54, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
::::I think that's straying a bit off-topic. DexDor (talk) 18:00, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
:::::The intention is to delete all country-specific categories on Amphibians and merge them to continent-wide categories. The above are the only current countries which have areas in multiple continents and may require merges to more than one? How is off-topic? Dimadick (talk) 09:42, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
::::::This CFD is for 3 categories. If you want to do a much larger CFD for amphibians (or anything else) then please go ahead. DexDor (talk) 18:12, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
