• The Scholars layer in :Category:Scholars of the medieval Islamic world by state is well-populated, so I don't think we should remove Almoravids from it. Would the sub-cat {{c|Almoravid writers}} sit OK in that layer? In contrast, its other parent :Category:Writers of the medieval Islamic world is not so well populated with sibling sub-cats by state. – Fayenatic London 20:50, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

It seems that scholars and writers are overlapping concepts: scholars is mostly used for categorization by state, writers is mostly used for categorization by topic or language, while articles are simultaneously in both trees. So, for consistency, :Category:Almoravid writers :Category:Writers under the Almoravid dynasty should be merged to :Category:Scholars under the Almoravid dynasty. ::Merge/rename into a category that removes "male"—looking at {{Cl|Men by nationality and occupation}}, there are plenty of categories with the same criteria, though I think a combination category of ethnicity/gender is unneeded. For example, {{cl|American male YouTubers}} could be replaced by {{cl|American YouTubers}}/{{cl|Male YouTubers}}; for this reason, I oppose deleting Category: Male YouTubers specifically. Essentially, categorizing male YouTubers but not female YouTubers is like saying that male should be interpreted as "default" and female as "derivative", rather than both being equal—an example of gender bias on Wikipedia that people have been trying to correct for a long time now.
