:Rationale: There are 124 members in all in {{cl|Irish field hockey players}} and 32 counties, ie around 4 per county. Moreover County Dublin has 48 and County Antrim (Belfast) has 17, leaving around 60 to be distributed amongst 30 counties. Clearly that any attempt to split up Irish field hockey players much further by county is doomed (indeed not one other passes user:William Allen Simpson’s stated minimum requirement of 10, County Down leading the way with 8). In addition to the small numbers, Sheelagh Murnaghan, say, is being categorised as a hockey player when the only mention of hockey in her article relates to her student days. Bill Haughton was a hockey player but is again categorised by place of birth (unsourced), contrary to WP:COP-PLACE. (“Haughton played [cricket] once for Ireland, a first-class match against Glamorgan on 23 May 1953. He was dismissed for a duck in both innings”) Editors populating these categories should take responsibility for their edits rather than relying on ‘Petscan assured me this would be fine’. It's hard to imagine a tree further from a "large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme" as envisioned in WP:SMALLCAT since fully half have just 1 article. • Comment, pathological science seems to be a particular type of pseudoscience. It is not a very defining term though. But I am also not sure if the articles of this category really belong in pseudoscience. :Category:Types of scientific fallacy, seems a better merge target, provided that this category is kept, maybe under another name. • Listify. It has a main category called pathological science, so in theory it should be okay. I certainly don't think it's trivial, it can be really dangerous. But as a term, "pathological science" may be somewhat subjective or arbitrary as a classification, also vis-à-vis pseudoscience as said (where does one end and the other begin?). Listify allows us to support each classification with RS. Categorisation does not give us that option. The main article is already full of cited examples, so that seems a logical way to go. If anyone doubts whether calling {{xt|Foo}} a pathological science is valid, we can support it with an RS. If we can't, the item {{xt|Foo}} can be removed from the list. Seems the best option to me. • :Yeah, I think this is a good idea in addition to a merge. The nomination reasons are WP:OC-specific policy reasons, not value judgements on the concept itself. Plenty of things can be verifiable and notable but still WP:OC, pathological is certainly peripheral to "pseudoscience" or "discredited" and the fact that we can verify that a WP:RS called it pathological doesn't make their assessment "non-subjective" in the WP:SUBJECTIVECAT sense. - car chasm (talk) 04:13, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

• UpMerge to :Category:Obsolete scientific theories (and diffuse to subcats as appropriate). I think there's a difference between something like cold fusion, and talking about the paranormal. So I think pseudoscience isn't quite the right target. (Which could be part of why there is such a divergence of thought on this.) In contrast this more recent cfd has stimulated editors to populate most of them, an excellent outcome. A search such as [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=%22Fernhill_School%22+%Glasgow%22+%22births%22&title=Special:Search&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&ns0=1 this] for Fernhill might find potential additions. When adding an article for an alumnus, the school should be mentioned in the article, preferably sourced. In some cases the school article, linked in the table above, will have a list of illustrious alumni. (The nominator has no obligation to make any attempt to populate any categories created by others. That responsibility lies entirely with the creator of a category, whose first edits post-creation should be to find members, and delete the wretched thing if no more can be found.)
