::::* Sm8900 - I think that the trouble here is that you are focused on one specific definition of the word "history", and not its generalized meaning. See wikt:history. The word is more than merely definition 2 or 3. It is a broad term encompassing all events, and the things (nouns) which constitute (are part of, or present for) those events. So yes, a toy can very well be part of history. If someone was documenting a history of the 1950s, could they note the hula hoop or frisbee? Of course they could. The category "Decades" is not merely a history of the use of numbers to define a time period. These categories are used to categorize the history within that named time period. Now, if you wanted to argue for a reverse-merge, I suppose that that could get more traction per WP:PRECISION, but I think you'd run afoul of WP:COMMONNAME, and of course, the fact that all acticles on Wikipedia are - by definition - "history". - jc37 00:15, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

::*Support It makes sense to have a category "Florae" or "Floras" for publications, and perhaps it would also make sense to put pages like Flora of Australia and List of plants of Cerrado vegetation of Brazil in that category (although I would probably disagree that this is valuable). But categories are plural, the plural word "flora" is just a synonym of "plants", and this reflects the actual contents of the category which are nearly all pages for individual plants.

• Comment - That biota discussion doesn't look like what I'd call solid precedent. It's a LocalCon filled seemingly mostly with opinion, and not seeing much in the way of policy-based contributions there. Is there a guideline or policy about species names somewhere? I could potentially see categorising species this way, as part of taxonomy. Though, would that be Florae or Flora or Plantae or Plant? Hence wondering if we have a guideline somewhere on this. I have a feeling (based upon past discussions that I've seen) that this will trend toward using "Plant" (Plants) per WP:COMMONNAME, but I'd like to double check guidelines before going down that path. I think we should tread carefully here, and get this right, so that we can appropriately address all these on more solid footing. - jc37 00:30, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Also there is a subcategory :Category:Neapolitan noble families, which is a subcategory of :Category:Neapolitan nobility, which for stated reasons spans multiple kingdoms. Likewise the Gagliano family was prominent for about 200 years, in the Kingdom of Naples, the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, and the Kingdom of Italy. • After looking at this a third time, I think it might just make more sense to make it :Category:Alvarado family (professional wrestling) to make it match all other subcategories of :Category:Sports families where a sport disambiguator is needed. This would be similar to :Category:Gutiérrez family (professional wrestling) and suggest greater change in the wrestling families category. This category was probably only created to move all the subcategories of Fiction characters that begin with "Fictional characters by" in the title (but for some reason someone has recently removed Fictional characters by medium). It's like if I made a category titled "Films by attribute". Attribute is also used incorrectly; the noun would specifically refer to a quality (something good; which would be opinionated); not just any trait. Simply merging with fictional characters is highly recommended but perhaps we could also make a new category titled "Fictional characters by in-universe trait" that would be used the move subcategories from the parent and this category including fictional orphans and billionaires?
