Wikipedia:Meetup/Boston/Peabody Essex Museum Edit-a-thon Spring 2014

Come and join the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) for our very first Wikipedia edit-a-thon! PEM is committed to making information about its collections available to a global audience. At this first edit-a-thon, we’ll be editing Wikipedia articles and uploading images on our Native American and Chinese art collections using the resources and expertise provided by the PEM curators and staff.

• When is it? 9:00am-5:00pm, Saturday May 3rd, 2014

• Who should come? All are welcome! Resources on the topics and Wikipedia training will be available to all. This is a chance for experienced Wikipedians, art history buffs, and those new to both to all learn from one another.
• What does it cost? Nothing! It’s free!

Meet in the Atrium (main entrance) at 9am to sign in. There will be signs directing you to Create Space 2, where the event will take place.

The day is themed around enriching and adding articles pertaining to Native American and Chinese art. Below is a list of topics we would like to focus on for this edit-a-thon. Many of these have links to PEM’s collections. Curators will be on hand with material related to these topic areas. These topics are broad- other suggestions are welcome! We will try to be as flexible as possible with requests on the day, but cannot guarantee the provision of materials on other topics.

Contemporary Native American artists

Many of the Wikipedia articles on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Native_American_artists contemporary Native American artists are incomplete, and many significant contemporary Native American artists do not currently have their own Wikipedia articles. We'll be working to update information about these artists and add images of their works from PEM's collection.
