Wikipedia is not monster.com, either. Abuse of userspace to post shamelessly job-hunting resume. Orange Mike | Talk 23:46, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Delete WP:NOTWEBHOST. @Kate (parlez) 23:52, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Keep New editor who has made most of his 33 edits outside of userspace. Short resume in userspace is allowed for "active editors" and this is assuredly short and within reasonable bounds. No need to characterize such a bare-bones resume as "shameless" to be sure. Collect (talk) 00:00, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- response - the definitive resume section, "Objective: To obtain employment with a science and engineering firm in which I can contribute to a dynamic team that works toward solving today’s technical issues" is what triggered my use of the harsh adjective "shameless". --Orange Mike | Talk 02:07, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- So what you actually want is the deletion of that one line? Then why not explain this to the user first, before bringing his whole userpage here? — Sizzle Flambé (☎/✍) 04:22, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Delete Wikipedia is not a web host. Miami33139 (talk) 07:29, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
::Ah, yes. Do tell User:MGodwin that, will you? Perhaps nominate his userpage for deletion? — Sizzle Flambé (☎/✍) 08:23, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
:::Mike Godwin works for the foundation so his CV is directly about the project. When people are referred to him on legal issues they want to know who they are talking to. This page is a resume of some guy, and the resume has no relationship to Wikipedia or his Wikipedia contributions. Miami33139 (talk) 18:39, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
::::When users look at others' userpages, it's generally because "they want to know who they are talking to." Résumés are one method of self-description, clearly acceptable to the WMF, and there's no reason "some guy" can't use the same method if he chooses. — Sizzle Flambé (☎/✍) 13:02, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
- Keep, per Collect's observations, with User:MGodwin as case-in-point. The problem appears to be the one "job-hunting" line, so address that with the user, don't WP:BITE his whole userpage off for it. — Sizzle Flambé (☎/✍) 08:27, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Keep but tell user that he has to tone down the job-hunting resume qualities of his userpage description of himself. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 10:40, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Keep Wikipedia is not a means for self-promotion, nor is it for advertising, nor is it a means for posting your résumé. But this userpage is not too problematic and can easily be toned down to comply with policy. I suggest working with the user instead of biting his head off. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 15:43, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks guys, I changed my objective. I had no idea I was doing anything wrong. Still learning, but I think the more good, pertinent information out there the better off we are. Isn't that was the internet is about? --User:Johnmatthewwells [[User talk:Johnmatthewwells]
- Does that satisfy your objection, Mike? In view of User:MGodwin? — Sizzle Flambé (☎/✍) 23:54, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- It's a good start. I'd prefer the user to remove his email address and instead enable an email address in his preferences; and remove the telephone number. Also, seeing as he is so prepared to be open, how about uploading a photograph of himself. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:52, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- But User:MGodwin has a photo of himself, just to the right of his email address and telephone number.... oh, you mean Mr. Wells. But surely that's a matter of his personal choice? — Sizzle Flambé (☎/✍) 17:22, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. Just my thoughts. Really, I would just like Johnmatthewwells to carry on. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 10:55, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for the help. Removed my phone number, enabled my email address in my preferences. There's one other issue I would appreciate some help on. I've been working to get the wiki StarChase (my place of work) updated and recently Mike put some other "problem boxes" at the top of the page. I sure would hate for someone to put that page up for deletion. If you guys have any suggestions on how to get the StarChase page up to Mike's starndards, I would be greatful.--Johnmatthewwells 18:40, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Keep per Collect, SmokeyJoe, and Sizzle Flambé's point about Mike Godwin's page. User is reasonable and cooperative on addressing concerns. I don't see how this, in it's current version, is over the line per WP:USERPAGE and I don't see job hunting here. It's not all that unusual to list one's accomplishments and if it helps other editors collaborate by indicating areas of competence, that helps Wikipedia in it's mission. Also keep per WP:BITE. — Becksguy (talk) 09:03, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- I am just trying to help the spread of information. If anybody finds something that is going against the neutrality of information that Wikipedia is trying to maintain, please make a notification on the talk page--Johnmatthewwells 15:08, 18 December 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnmatthewwells (talk • contribs)
