  • Abanyom language speaking people This people are found in the South Eastern region of the present Cross Rivers State of Nigeria in West Africa. This language is widely spoken by the Bantu group of people in central Africa. Source: The Joshua Project.
  • African wedding ceremonies – A great deal of information that exists on the vast variety of African peoples and their matrimonial unions.
  • Ahmed Khair – crucial contributor to the expulsion of British colonialism in Sudan
  • Apartheid South Africa - There is no separate page for the period of South Africa from 1948-1994, under white minority rule. Given that this was an entirely different nation to the current South Africa, with a completely different government system, borders etc, it should have its own page. Keep in mind there are separate pages for far more similar governments, such as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (which did not fundamentally change, Ireland just seceded) and Baathist Iraq.

  • Nguyen Thi Quang Thai (1915-1944) was a Vietnamese revolutionary activist, one of the early members and outstanding activists in the National Language Propagation Movement in the 1930s.[1] She was also the younger sister of revolutionary Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and the first wife of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Background

She was born in 1915 in Vinh, Nghe An. Her father was Nguyen Huy Binh from Moc village (Nhan Chinh ward, Thanh Xuan district), Hanoi, working as a railway official in Vinh city, commonly known as Han Binh. Her mother was Dau Thi Thu, from Duc Tung, Duc Tho, Ha Tinh, a small trader. Mr. and Mrs. Binh had 3 daughters and 5 sons. Mrs. Thai was 5 years younger than her eldest sister Nguyen Thi Minh Khai (Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Khai was born in 1910).

Before 1940, Mr. and Mrs. Binh's family lived at 132 Maréchal Foch Street (now Quang Trung Street), Vinh City, Nghe An Province.

Started revolutionary activities.

Influenced by her eldest sister Minh Khai, one of the founders of the Tan Viet Revolutionary Party, she soon joined the Tan Viet Party and was active in the Student Union. In 1929, she and a friend named Ho Cam went to Hue to take the entrance exam to Dong Khanh School. On the train from Vinh to Hue, she first met a young man named Vo Nguyen Giap, who worked with Minh Khai in the Tan Viet Party.

During their time in Hue, the two worked together in the Tan Viet Party, met many times and developed feelings for each other. Active in the patriotic student movement at Dong Khanh School, she was arrested by the French colonial government in late 1930 for participating in leading the female student movement, calling on comrades to support the Nghe Tinh Soviet, and was sentenced to 3 years in prison at Thua Phu Prison. Although she was only 16 years old, she was famous for a saying that many of her fellow prisoners repeated: Personne ne te dénonce, ne dénonces personne! (No one will denounce you; you will denounce no one!).[2]

At the end of 1931, Mr. Giap was also arrested and imprisoned in Thua Phu prison. Although they did not have the opportunity to meet, they still communicated with each other through their fellow prisoners. At the end of 1934, they were both released but were expelled from Hue. On September 28, 1935, they got married in Vinh, then returned to Hanoi, living in a house on Duong Thanh street, later moving to Nam Ngu street. At that time, she was assigned to the women's movement of the Northern Regional Party Committee, in charge of the movement of female intellectuals and industrialists, and also worked as a liaison officer for the Central Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party, regularly communicating with important figures of the Indochinese Communist Party such as Nguyen Van Cu, Hoang Van Thu, Truong Chinh, and Le Duan.[1][2] Although she passed the entrance exam to the Hanoi Medical School with excellent results, due to her active activities in the student movement, she was soon discovered and expelled by the colonial government.

In 1938, she actively participated in the National Language Propagation Movement, participated in the Training Committee, and directly organized classes to introduce the new teaching methods of scholar Hoang Xuan Han...[1].

At the end of 1939, she gave birth to her first and only daughter, named Vo Hong Anh.[3]

The eternal separation.

Less than a year after giving birth, Mr. Giap went to China to work[4]. She then withdrew into secret activities. Therefore, she took her children to her husband's parents' house in Quang Binh so that she could stay in Hanoi to do revolutionary activities.

In 1941, the French colonial government held a military trial of Mrs. Minh Khai in Saigon. She hired a lawyer and brought her father to attend the trial. At the trial, she quickly hid the piece of paper that Mrs. Minh Khai threw to Mr. Le Duan, which fell right in front of the escorting soldiers, thereby helping Mr. Le Duan escape being convicted of being involved with Mrs. Minh Khai.[5]

After Mrs. Minh Khai was executed, her father died of grief not long after. She returned home to Vinh to take temporary refuge and take care of her elderly mother. However, on June 1, 1942, due to a tip-off from a reactionary named Duy[2], the French colonial government suddenly searched and arrested her and Mr. Nguyen Duy Trinh, who was staying at her house at that time. She was arrested by the French colonial government, sentenced to 12 years in prison and exiled to Hoa Lo prison.[1] Her defense attorney at this trial was Lawyer Phan Anh,[6] who later became the former Minister of Defense of her husband (Vo Nguyen Giap) and the future father-in-law of her daughter, Dr. Vo Hong Anh.

During her imprisonment, she was often tortured but did not reveal any information to protect the organization, especially her relationship with Mr. Hoang Van Thu. In addition, she often organized cultural classes for female prisoners. At the end of 1943, due to harsh living conditions, a typhus epidemic broke out in Hoa Lo prison. With the medical knowledge she had acquired during her short time studying at the Hanoi Midwifery School, she devoted herself to taking care of the patients, so she was exhausted and contracted typhoid. Her comrades in Hoa Lo prison fought to transfer her to Robin Hospital (also known as "Charity Hospital", now Bach Mai Hospital). Linh felt that she would not survive, so she asked her mother-in-law to take her to Hanoi to see her. However, the last meeting did not happen. She passed away on January 29, 1944 at Robin Hospital.

  • Walter Lock (Royal Naval Officer) – Vice-Admiral Walter Lock (1757-1835), a contemporary of Lord Nelson, served with distinction in the Royal Navy from his joining in 1768, at the age of 12, until his death in 1835. In 1779, for example, during the American Revolution and whilst in temporary command of the badly damaged frigate HMS Rose, he deliberately sank his ship in the channel leading to Savannah, thus preventing the intervention of the French fleet and ensuring that Savannah remained in British hands until the end of the war. When Prince William Henry, Duke of Clarence and future King William IV, was serving as midshipman on HMS Hebe in 1784, Walter Lock, as first Lieutenant, became his mentor and lifelong friend. On leaving the ship, the prince presented a sword to Walter Lock as a token of friendship and esteem, engraved with their names and currently in the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. Ironically, Nelson found himself out of favour with George III for associating with his “disreputable son, Prince William Henry”. As third lieutenant on Admiral Earl Howe’s flagship HMS Queen Charlotte, Lock acquitted himself so well at the battle of the “Glorious First of June” 1794 that he was promoted to Commander within a month and, only a year later, to Captain.

Vice-Admiral Walter Locke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1778, to Commander in 1794 and to the rank of Captain in 1795. He served as Lieutenant in HMS 'Queen Charlotte' in the Battle of the Glorious First of June on the 1st June 1794 and was present at the action off L'Orient in 1795. He subsequently commanded HMS 'Ville de Paris' and HMS 'Prince of Wales'. In 1804 he was employed in the Sea Fencible Service at Berwick and afterwards on the Isle of Wight. In 1811 he was appointed Agent for Prisoners of War at Portchester. In 1814, he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral of the Blue, to Rear-Admiral of the White in 1819 and to Rear-Admiral of the Red in 1821. He became Vice-Admiral of the Blue in 1825 and Vice-Admiral of the White in 1830. He is honoured by a particularly fine memorial in St Thomas’ Church, Ryde, and he lies in the churchyard with his wife and one of his sons.

  • U.S. government-managed rationing, 1940–1947Before World War 2 in 1940 the U.S. Government restarted the Government-Managed Rationing from World War 1. This is a brief list of conflicting reports as to the actual start year. http://amp.history.com/news/hungry-history/food-rationing-in-wartime-america M&M's: In 1940 "Forrest E. Mars, Sr. returns to the United States and establishes M&M Limited in Newark, New Jersey. 1941 The first M&M’S Plain Chocolate Candies are made for the U.S. Military.http://www.mars.com/global/about-us/history

"Mars received a patent for his own process on March 3, 1941. Production began in 1941 in a factory located at 285 Badger Avenue in Clinton Hill, Newark, New Jersey. When the company was founded it was M&M Limited. The two "Ms" represent the names of Forrest E. Mars Sr., the founder of Newark Company, and Bruce Murrie, son of Hershey Chocolate's president William F. R. Murrie, who had a 20 percent share in the product. The arrangement allowed the candies to be made with Hershey chocolate, as Hershey had control of the rationed chocolate at the time. What is known is that in 1940, Mars concocted his own version of candy-coated chocolate drops and took them to the Hershey Corporation. There, he proposed an 80-20 partnership to Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey executive William Murrie, in which Bruce would be the 20-percent partner. At the time, World War II was developing, and chocolate was rationed during this period. The Hershey Corporation, however, already had a deal to provide chocolate for the troops. http://lemelson.mit.edu/resources/forrest-e-mars-sr I want more. I'm spent 6 hours on this already. There is more out there but I was on Wikipedia looking up the history of M&M's which led to more questions. I'd Love to learn as much about the U.S. Rationing that occurred between 1940 – 1947 and what all Commodities (food and Non-food) it affected, names of businesses lost during that period and Page Links/References for articles related to or 'Of Interest' Links during the same years. Please and Thank You!

It is also a question of comparing the relationship between the most advanced pre-Columbian civilizations of the continent such as that of the Inca Empire with the Paleolithic Indians of the Cauca Valley, for example, in parallel to the relations between the "Roman Empires" of both the West and the East with the villages called "Barbarians" both Slavic and Germanic among others.

  • First day of the year: please translate from italian :it:Primo giorno dell'anno. The article lists the "first day of the year" according to the different calendar style used during the past centuries in different countries. They were: 1st Gen of course but also: 1 March, 25 March, the Easter day, 1° September, 25 December ... Very interesting and useful to establish the right birth/death dates for historic peoples. – January 1951
