My conjecture is that American English speakers misplace vitality on {{VA link|Cleat (shoe)}} because we call {{VA link|Football boot}} Cleats. I did not realize that the article for Cleat (shoe) is not about a type of shoe until I tried to look at the two articles for merging. :You're asking the wrong person, I think Universities are over represented. You can look up above and see I nominated many for removal. If you want to try to nominate taking the California ones down, I'd support it. I don't consider college sports (or sports in general) vital, and think that the United States should probably be limited to 20 or fewer schools/University systems based exclusively on how internationally recognizable they are for academics/research. Looking at :Category:Hairstyles and :Template:Human hair. There are over 100 article to pick from. I am not sure bowl cut is among the most vital, standing out from the others, I would think it stands out as one of the least vital. Just picking articles at random missing articles concerning hair things are Braid (hairstyle), bob cut, perm (hairstyle), hair gel. And most notably pubic hair. All of which seem more vital than bowl cut. I may suggest pubic hair under biology as well kind of swap for this one.

Per above discussion, the Olympics are getting unwieldy and I proposed removing the articles for the specific Summer or Winter games. Looking into it, I saw we are missing the Special Olympics World Games. We have {{VA link|Paralympic Games}}, which is a distinct thing operated by the International Paralympic Committee, while the Special Olympics are operated by an organization recognized by the IOC. I think if we remove most or all of the individual games, adding this shouldn't be much of an issue.

This is a game that a lot of kids play but it hasn't been entrenched in culture as much as the other inclusions on this list. It is not even a well-defined 'game' as there is typically no concrete objective, it's just a thing some kids do. It is also a fairly recent game as it seems to have originated in the 1930s with the introduction of living rooms populated with furniture. I assume it was added because it was a somewhat popular meme a few years back and there was a Netflix show with the same name but the game's popularity was short-lived after that [https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=floor%20is%20lava&hl=en]. Hard to justify having this when we don't have more established games like Simon Says. I would rather have Imaginary friend which is dually notable in child's play and developmental psychology. High-Importance in Wikiproject Psychology and more average pageviews than The floor is lava even factoring in the spikes from the release of the Netflix show.

I don't know much at all about cricket, but to me this article seems to be about the game of cricket that's codified and governed by International Cricket Council. I think it's enough we list the general listing {{VA link|Cricket}} and also keep the three forms or formats of international cricket that we have: {{VA link|Test cricket}}, {{VA link|One Day International}} and {{VA link|Twenty20 International}}. This way we could get away with one level of indented numbering and the last level of indentation wouldn't look so squished on the page.

There's also that we don't list any competing cricket codes to international cricket, like with rugby we have rugby league and rugby union. So that would be another reason I'd rather remove this than keep.

This article is about games popular in Ireland or originated from there. It's an umbrella term to {{VA link|Gaelic football}}, {{VA link|Hurling}} and {{VA link|Camogie}}. If we would remove this, we could move gaelic football under football, where it would belong better. Camogie is women's hurling, so it would make more sense to list in under hurling. Gaelic games wouldn't then have anything else under it, so it would be unnecessary to have it anymore. Especially because I don't think we have any other country related team sports articles besides it.

Futsal is indoor association football, or soccer. It's a popular enough sport compared to other team sports that we list as vital. It would be fit well alongside all the other types of football that we list.

A safer variant of American football where there is no tackling players to the ground. A reasonably popular sport when comparing to other sports we list. I remember playing both futsal and flag football in PE class at school. Flag football will be a discretionary event for the 2028 Olympics, which will be the first time any gridiron football has been in the Olympics.

The Acela is a small part of the already-vital {{VA link|Amtrak}}. The Union Pacific was, along with the Central Pacific, the First Transcontinental Railroad. We used to list much more coffee varieties than we list now, but we cut them down a few years ago. We didn't touch the tea varieties then, so now we list tea disproporionally more compared to coffee. 1. Broadly, I feel like this is a proposal that has a bit of a western bias to it. Tea and Tea culture predate coffee by around 1,000 years. Tea has had a major impact on world events in very extreme ways, such as the events surrounding the {{VA link|Boston Tea Party}}. I would be failing my inner Iroh if I didn't take a stand and say something about this agregious disrespect for tea. If anything, we should be expanding out coverage of the topic. I won't vote against this one (I've voted against "Caffè americano" and "Caffè mocha"), but I think "{{VA link|Milk coffee}}" would be a better addition. Cause there are many drinks that are essentially the same old milk and coffee, and the article "Milk coffee" talks about the concept.

1. Could support a swap. We are over-quota in this section and car companies aren't where I'd look first to fill any gaps. We represent luxury car companies already through {{VA link|BMW}} and {{VA link|Mercedes-Benz}}/{{VA link|Mercedes-Benz Group}} and these two brands take the top 2 slots in luxury car sales. Compared to other articles in this section, it also has fewer pageviews, around 10 per day. I think {{VA link|Legal professional privilege}} is more important. It has about 30 pageviews per day and 11 other language versions. I do see that Attorney–client privilege has 3 times as many pageviews, but that article is restricted to the USA. Above, {{VA link|Incense}} was nominated. This surprised me as incense is extremely important across cultures, and in multiple religions. I suspect this is Western bias, specifically American bias, because we don't tend to use incense quite as much as other cultures. I have gone through and found a few key pages related to incense that have not been included, and think they should be added.

Entry criticized in a related discussion above by {{ping|LaukkuTheGreit|Iostn}}. I concur this is a low vitality concept - NA as a continent doesn't really have much of a common culture. What there is, is much more niche than European or Asian or African, or, heck, pretty much any other region. Which is whyu this article is just a list of related topics, rather than a proper prose article like other contintental culture ones. I assume it was added as part of a batch add of similar topics, but now it's time for it to go (you can also consider this as part of the proposed swap above, for the culture of the USA). Following above discussions at #Culture of Mexico and #Culture of the United States, I looked at what we actually list at Wikipedia:Vital_articles/Level/5/Society_and_social_sciences/Culture#Culture_by_region and... it's just {{VA link|Culture of Japan}} and {{VA link|Culture of Australia}} (which possibly doubles as a regional entry). Sigh. Yes, really. No other countries, jus some regions (contients+Polynesian culture) and few odd concepts (err, The sea in culture, really? I don't think so... expect removal proposal soon). PS. Just in case someone wonders: we list Culture of Buddhism and Islamic culture here, while {{VA link|Christian culture}} is lised under "Philosophy and religion". I think Buddhism and Islamic should be moved from 'by region' to where the Christian one is listed. Anyway, to country adds. I looked at Wikipedia:Vital_articles/Level/3#Countries and subjectively choose these countries which IMHO had some major influence on world's culture, past or present, comparable to US or Mexico we seem to support above, and Japan, present here (sorry, Canada, etc.). Plus Greece which did not make it to V3?? Numerically, there's some sys bias here, but region- and population wise, China, India, Brazil and Russia do cover a lot of the world; Africa and Middle East get some concept coverage, so... shrug. We just dropped Super Bowl to VA5, and, in that spirit, I wonder if this belongs at all. 14 interwikis is low for a VA5 (typically 20+). This sport isn't particularly old (only 44 years), and is almost exclusively played in the United States and Canada, and not at the highest level of gridiron football (the various Arena leagues are not at a talent level, compensation, or fan base to the NFL, arguably not even than college football)

There is the concept of a university system, but is that it? The claim is unreferenced. In the body there's a semi-referenced (no ref for that sentence, some refs a few sentences later that I did not check) claim that it "is the world's fifth-largest university", which seems to be confirmed by List of largest universities and university networks by enrollment. But #2, #3 and #4 from that list are not at V5, so either we add {{VA link|National University, Bangladesh}}, {{VA link|Anadolu University}} and {{VA link|California Community Colleges}}, or this is not a strong claim for vitality. And while a teriary education system that has million+ students sounds impressive, is it vital? I'd rather consider stuff like {{VA link|Higher education in the United States}} or (for this very case) {{VA link|Higher education in Iran}} (not a VA) rather than what is, effectively, a company. In fact, I may suggest a bit later to nuke a few or few dozen of unversities, and replace them with the "higher education in Fooland" articles. Or even {{VA link|Education in the United States}}. For Wikipedia:Vital_articles/Level/5/Everyday_life#Food_types. Above we are likely to add cupcake and muffin. Donut is V5 already. So is sponge cake. And I like my sweets (they'll like be the death of me...). Anyway, when I think cakes, in Polish, the word "tort" is very common. I have to admit I have not heard "torte" used in English, but well, we have an article on that. I also note that we have an article on a very similar concept, that of a Sandwich cake (sandwich cake redirects there). Torte has 37 interwikis; layer cake just 14 (and no pl wiki version). The current articles don't seem to make a good case that they are not synonyms, so I'll suggest a merge. For now, we should add at least one of these, or maybe both (and see what merge discussion will end up with). "Torte" is an important topic. At first, I was happy to see something that actually translates to many other European languages. But what bothers me is that the French Wikipedia simply links this concept to {{VA link|Pastry}}, which i already level 4. According to some surveys somewhere between 7% and 14% of the population in US and UK identify as naturist/nudist, as much as one in seven people. There is a category dedicated to naturism, including categories and articles specific to 10 nations on top of other topics, while the main article mentions naturism in sections dedicated to 24 nations. There are events, resorts, magazines and some TV shows and movies dedicated to naturism, some of which have there own article. The topic is of interest to law, ethics, religion, and society in general. The media and many non-naturists often interested in the the topic possibly due to being interested in the concept of nudity in general, or offended by it. Nudity is included at level 4, but it is not unreasonable to expand upon it and add this article about the lifestyle choice here which covers some of the same ground, but is not the same thing.

Recently we discovered a gap in the form of Culture of Fooland articles, and above we are adding a number. Another one seems to be related to the field of education. (And I have a feeling it's just a tip of the iceberg). Anyway, I think we have too many higher education institutions listed (Wikipedia:Vital_articles/Level/5/Society_and_social_sciences/Culture#Educational_institutions is way too bloated, with ~200 entries). I think we should try to cut it to let's say a 100, and use the freed up 100 spots to add a dozen or two, or even three, overviews of education by country and region, just like above we are adding the culture overviews. I mean, if we add culture of the United States, for example, why not education in the United States or higher education in the United States? IMHO such overviews are much more vital than entries on individual institutions (some of which are just companies), and many of which have little impact or recognizability outside its small region (sometimes, province, not even a country) and educators/scholars (heck, I am an educator and researcher, and I don't recognize most of the universities we list). For now, my adds are similar to the culture adds, which is also similar to the list of countries listed at V3, but with a second take on which countries have multiple tertiary institutions listed at V5. I will make comments in various sections above for the adds. Feel free to propose others. When I look at what basketball teams are listed, I feel like it's very lackluster. We can all agree that there's no doubt that the {{VA link|Boston Celtics}}, {{VA link|Harlem Globetrotters}}, {{VA link|Los Angeles Lakers}}, and {{VA link|United States men's national basketball team}} are all 100% vital. But the rest need some fixing.

I just simply can't see why the Bulls are listed. Oh, I know why? {{VA link|Michael Jordan}}, that's why. The single reason why the Bulls are listed is because they were a dynasty FOR LESS THAN A DECADE because they had (arguably) the greatest person to ever play basketball. They were never good before Jordan, and they've never been good after Jordan (besides those 2 years Derrick Rose was good). They're well behind the Celtics and Lakers in terms of NBA champions (a mere 6 compared to 18 and 17 respectively), and they're not even third in NBA championships; they're behind the {{VA link|Golden State Warriors}}! The Warriors would definitely be a better team to list because of more success (and also all of their championships at least weren't contained in less than a decade), and even then I don't think they should be listed! The point is, the Bulls are only listed because of Jordan, and they should not be listed because of that.

You know what surprises me? We have no college basketball teams listed, men or women. Especially considering it's as popular as college football (which we have 2 teams listed), we should have at least 1, possibly 2 listed. Maybe it's because it's hard to pick one, and indeed it was. I decided to choose Kentucky (also considered North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, and UCLA) because they are the team that I feel has the most sustained success (although UNC does come very close). They have the most bids in the NCAA tournament by a good margin, the second most championships (and the one team that's ahead of them is because of an unstoppable decade-long dynasty), the best winning percentage, the most victories, several Hall of Fame coaches, many amazing players, and higher pageviews than UNC, Kansas, and UCLA. The statistics point in UK's favor, and although I definitely think UNC could be added too (we have room to add 2), I'm starting with just this proposal.

I also believe that we should list a women's team (especially considering women's basketball as a whole is on the rise), and thankfully this one was so much easier to pick. There's no doubt to who should be listed. UConn is pretty much the runaway leader in women's basketball success, and is the name that most people recognize. Now, the Social studies category may be over quota, but the subcategory of psychology (where Sleep Paralysis would fall) is actually the one subcategory that's under quota. As for Sleep Paralysis, it's an extremely common and well documented phenomenon (the article claims 8% to 50% of people experience it), and it also has a lot of information on how it's impacted folklore globally. There are several Combination eating utensils that are included in that article like knork, spife, that do not even have there own article, let alone a vital one. The Magazines section is extremely Anglocentric, only having three magazines that aren't from the US or UK (two Japanese, one German). As the largest country in the world, India deserves at least one magazine on the list, and this is it. It has a readership of nearly eight million, giving it the highest circulation of all Indian magazines and an important place in the Indian media sphere. 29 interwikis is also very impressive for a non-Anglosphere magazine.

I do not see this as important. It appears in six other languages. This is just one aspect of traffic safety, there are many topics in this general area that are not listed and seem more vital to me. Just one's I've thought of in the last few minutes include, the following which are unlisted. Car door itself (19 languages), Driver's license (72), Driver's education (33) (driving lessons redirects to this), Driving test (17), speed limit (45), road traffic safety (37), side mirror (13), rear view mirror (28), traffic police (21). All of these just plucked out of my head range from 2x as many languages to 12x as many languages. Given that {{VA link|Phobia}} is Level 4, I think we can afford to add specific examples at Level 5 (Well, technically homophobia and transphobia are listed, but these are forms of social bigotry/discrimination and not phobias in the medical sense. We do list Social anxiety disorder which used to be known as "social phobia", but that term is outdated and now it's usually not considered a phobia in the common sense). Per the points brought up in my failed proposal to add Kentucky and UConn basketball; a lot of those points apply to these two as well. They're both very Ameri-centric, and I doubt many people outside of the United States would recognize these teams. They also have very low interwikis (4 and 6 respectively). As I argued in the failed proposal, college football and college basketball have similar vitality, and if anything, college basketball would be recognized more internationally. If college basketball teams shouldn't be listed, then neither should college football teams.

• When I went through military terms, I was a bit shocked by how little we actually include. When making that proposal, I had to close it to avoid making it to long. Once I see how that batch does, I think we likely can have at least another one or two the same size, as this proposal illustrates. Military terms have a huge impact on culture, slang leakes into common usage, fashion is based on their uniforms, and concepts from war are applied into everyday applications. Sad reality of our species that I think we are covering up a bit out of possible shame here... The article on the film states it is one of Time magazines "All-Time 100 Movies." Specifically, add the Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda.

We have 5 religious texts at VA3, and one of them is the {{VA link|Vedas}}, which are the fundamental texts of Hinduism and maybe the oldest scripture practiced today. In the case of the {{VA link|Bible}}, we list all 59 bible books (well, bundling together the Twelve Minor Prophets) at VA5. Well, it turns out there are only 4 Vedas, and yet we currently only list 1 at VA5. The articles themselves describe the Vedas as having a large influence in the Indian subcontinent, such as in {{VA link|Indian classical music}} and the {{VA link|Ayurveda}} traditional medical system. I struggle to see how excluding these would not be systemic bias, given that we give 10 times as many slots to the central Christian text. They each have around 60 interwikis.

While Burger King obviously isn't as vital as McDonald's, I believe it's the most important food chain that we don't currently list at this level. Again, while not as much as McDonald's, Burger King has more than 19,700 locations worldwide according to Google. This is among the most locations for a chain worldwide. This is going to be the only nominee founded as a sub-label.
