Yael ({{langx|he|יָעֵל}}, {{IPA|he|jaˈʔel|pron}}; also spelled Jael) is a given name of Hebrew origin. It is the name of biblical figure Jael, who saved the Israelites by killing Sisera, commander of the Canaanite king Jabin's army, by hammering a tent peg through his temple while asleep in her tent. The Hebrew ya'el means ibex, a nimble, sure-footed mountain goat native to that region.{{cite web|last=Goode|first=Richard|title=Wild Goat/Ibex|website=Newman Research Centre for the Bible and Its Reception|date=2019|url=https://bibleresearchtoday.com/2019/06/06/wild-goat-ibex-day-6-of-30-days-biblically-wild/|access-date=October 29, 2020}} As of 2018, Yael was one of the most common female first names in contemporary Israel.{{cite web|title=What are the most popular Jewish baby names in Israel?|date=14 February 2018|url=https://m.jpost.com/Israel-News/What-are-the-most-popular-Jewish-baby-names-in-Israel-542614/}}
