mutton flaps

{{short description|Cut of meat from a domestic sheep}}

Mutton flaps, or breast of lamb, are an inexpensive cut of meat from a sheep.

Consisting of a sheep's lower rib meat, mutton flaps are considered a low-quality cut in Western countries, as opposed to pork and beef ribs.{{Cite news |date=2016-01-18 |title=How mutton flaps are killing Tonga |language=en-GB |work=BBC News |url=https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35346493 |access-date=2023-03-20}} They have been described there as a "tough, scraggy meat", if not properly prepared.{{cite web|url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/lamb_breast |title=Lamb breast recipes|website= BBC Food | accessdate=2016-01-24}} Their high fat content has also contributed to their unpopularity in many Western countries, although they are widely used as gyro meat in the United States.{{Cite web|title = You have probably eaten mutton flaps more times than you'd like to admit|url = http://metro.co.uk/2016/01/21/mutton-flaps-are-real-and-youve-probably-eaten-them-5636631/|website = Metro|access-date = 2016-01-22|first = Francesca|last = Kentish|date = 21 January 2016}}
