Background

Right-wing antiglobalism began to gain traction in the 2010s in countries like the United Kingdom and the United States, which were previously seen as one of the major supporters of the globalization. Before the 21st century, most of the critiques of globalism came from its impact on the Global South. In the 21st century, there have been increasing concerns about its effect on the Global North.{{cite web |last1=Haberly |first1=Daniel |last2=Horner |first2=Rory |last3=Schindler |first3=Seth |last4=Aoyama |first4=Yuko |date=25 January 2018 |title=How anti-globalisation switched from a left to a right-wing issue – and where it will go next |url=https://theconversation.com/how-anti-globalisation-switched-from-a-left-to-a-right-wing-issue-and-where-it-will-go-next-90587 |access-date=20 October 2024 |website=The Conversation }} Globalism has been criticized as leading to the outsourcing of jobs and cultural homogenization.{{cite journal |last1=Castañeda |first1=Ernesto |last2=Shemesh |first2=Amber |date=May 2020 |title=Overselling Globalization: The Misleading Conflation of Economic Globalization and Immigration, and the Subsequent Backlash |journal=Social Sciences |volume=9 |issue=5 |pages=61 |doi=10.3390/socsci9050061 |doi-access=free |issn=2076-0760}}
