The season started in August 2017 and ended in May 2018. The league comprises fourteen teams from the 2016–17 season and two promoted from the 2016–17 Football League.
On 12 March 2018, the Super League Greece was suspended by the Greek government until further notice after the president of PAOK, Ivan Savvidis, had stormed onto the field with a revolver during the match between PAOK and AEK Athens played the previous day.{{cite news|url=https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43369490|title=Greek Superleague suspended after PAOK Salonika president invades pitch with gun|website=bbc.com|date=12 March 2018}} The suspension was lifted on 27 March. Two teams were promoted from the 2016–17 Football League, Apollon Smyrnis and Lamia, the latter for which it was their debut season in the highest division of Greek football.
