Technology overview
Bitnami stacks are available for web applications such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!, Redmine, AbanteCart, PrestaShop, Magento, MediaWiki and many others. In addition to the application itself, the stacks include the other software required to run that application. For example, a WordPress stack will include WordPress, as well as the MySQL database to manage data, Apache Web server to serve the pages, OpenSSL library for basic cryptographic functions and PhpMyAdmin to administer MySQL. Bitnami installers are released under the Apache License 2.0. {{Citation needed|date=September 2010}}
Using automated cloud computing management, Bitnami offers users automated application deployments of open source server apps from IBM Cloud,{{cite web| title=Bitnami Application Catalog Now Available Within IBM Cloud| first1=Dave| last1=Tropeano| date=2019-11-06| publisher=IBM Cloud Blog| url=https://www.ibm.com/cloud/blog/announcements/bitnami-application-catalog-now-available-within-ibm-cloud| access-date=2021-10-26| archive-date=2021-10-26| archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211026110316/https://www.ibm.com/cloud/blog/announcements/bitnami-application-catalog-now-available-within-ibm-cloud| url-status=live}} Oracle Cloud, Amazon EC2, Azure and Google Cloud Platform servers.{{Cite web |url=http://bitnami.org/rightscale |title="Bitnami on RightScaleTM beginner's guide" |access-date=2009-01-24 |archive-date=2009-08-01 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090801103459/http://bitnami.org/rightscale |url-status=live }}
Since July 2009 Bitnami also offers ready-to-run virtual machines that contain a minimal and configured Linux operating system. Bitnami offers open source applications as modules for XAMPP package developed by Apache Friends.{{cite web|title=Bitnami for XAMPP|url=https://www.apachefriends.org/bitnami_for_xampp.html|accessdate=2019-04-09|archive-date=2018-06-23|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180623171928/https://www.apachefriends.org/bitnami_for_xampp.html|url-status=live}}
The distinct difference between installation of Bitnami installers and native installs (e.g. rpms and debs on Linux) are that they are installed in a way as to prevent interference with existing software and libraries. If multiple applications are installed on the same web server considerations for resolving conflicts on specific ports must be made. {{Citation needed|date=September 2010}}
