Illit debuted with a concept based on the "authentic feelings of teenage girls", differing from "complex" backstories often presented in previous K-pop acts.{{Cite web|title=K-pop groups embrace new concepts to reach out to audiences|url=https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/art/2024/04/398_373243.html|website=The Korea Times|date=April 23, 2024|access-date=December 6, 2024|archive-date=September 25, 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240925195304/https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/art/2024/04/398_373243.html|url-status=live}}
Pop culture critic Kim Do-heon suggested that Illit's success can be attributed to their emphasis on the "theme of relatability," which contributed to the development of their musical identity.{{Cite web|title=From ILLIT to TWS, K-pop rookies make impressive debuts in 2024|url=https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/art/2024/12/398_388669.html|website=The Korea Times|date=December 18, 2024|access-date=December 19, 2024|archive-date=December 18, 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20241218014208/https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/art/2024/12/398_388669.html|url-status=live}}
