History

From its inception in 1986, the event was called the Korea Visual and Records Grand Prize Award ({{korean|대한민국 영상음반대상}}) until 2001, when the event named was changed to the Golden Disk Awards.{{cite web |title=골든디스크 '누구품에 안길까' |url=http://www.koreatimes.com/article/20001127/16867 |website=The Korea Times |access-date=8 May 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210421065904/http://www.koreatimes.com/article/20001127/16867 |archive-date=21 April 2021 |language=ko |date=27 November 2000 |url-status=live}} The spelling was later changed to the Golden Disc Awards in 2015.

The awards ceremony was hosted in South Korea until 2012, when it was hosted in Osaka, Japan. The ceremony was also hosted internationally in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2013, and in Beijing, China in 2015.{{Cite news|url=http://thestandard.com.ph/showbitz/music-concerts/252033/manila-to-host-k-pop-s-golden-disc-awards.html|title=Manila to host K-Pop's Golden Disc Awards|date=2017-11-19|work=Manila Standard|access-date=2018-02-20|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171120094043/http://thestandard.com.ph/showbitz/music%2Dconcerts/252033/manila%2Dto%2Dhost%2Dk%2Dpop%2Ds%2Dgolden%2Ddisc%2Dawards.html|archive-date=2017-11-20|url-status=dead}}
