The fire damaged American Star′s engine room and destroyed her pilothouse, and she eventually drifted ashore on the south coast of Unimak Island in the Aleutian Islands {{convert|2|nmi}} east of Cape Lazaref ({{coord|54|37|00|N|163|35|10|W|name=Cape Lazaref}}) and became a total loss.
