My current (2016–present) focus on Wikipedia is improving representation of marginalized people. Transgender/nonbinary people and Black peopleOf course, these groups do overlap, as I know from [https://funcrunch.medium.com/becoming-a-black-man-in-america-5b494473d5a4?sk=3fcca6937ed07d5f19a316535703f2e5 firsthand experience]. are my priorities. I have been active on the LGBT Studies and Women in Red WikiProjects and the Whose Knowledge? user group.

At the inaugural Bay Area WikiSalon in April 2016, I participated on a panel discussing transgender issues, and talked about my experiences and frustrations with trans coverage on Wikipedia. I gave presentations on this subject at [https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2016/Main_Page WikiConference North America] in October 2016The Transgender Gap: [https://wikiconference.org/wiki/Submissions:2016/The_Transgender_Gap:_Trans_and_non-binary_representation_on_Wikipedia Abstract], [https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/15uy-RfPT24aPzIdSAcaPWykxpweE-lQuymoebHxsQd8/ Google Slides presentation], [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Transgender_Gap_-_October_2016.pdf PDF] and at the [https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_QueERG/LGBTQ%2B_Speaker_Series Wikimedia Foundation] in June 2017.Living Persons: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPhafGHTg6I YouTube video], [https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1C4w7-S1oc888vp5Ap-lqRjULR2ONKIyCLhkTQQRjhxg/ Google Slides presentation], [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Living_Persons_-_Trans_Lives_and_Wikipedia_June_2017.pdf PDF]

In June 2016, I created a [https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Protect_user_space_by_default proposal] for the Inspire Campaign to combat harassment by protecting user pages from editing by anonymous and new users. Six months and an RfC later, this idea was implemented via an [https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Userpage_AbuseFilter edit filter]. You can read all about it in The Signpost. I also gave a presentation on this subject at [https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2017/Main_Page WikiConference North America] in August 2017.Facing Defacement: [https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1K35L2OEaD83PBakN1SYz5Yfy_XkI9GS_kco8PtCmgBA/ Google Slides presentation], [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Facing_Defacement_-_August_2017.pdf PDF], [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Facing_Defacement_-_August_2017.webm video]

In April 2019, I was one of the editors featured in a New York Times [https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/08/us/wikipedia-harassment-wikimedia-foundation.html article about harassment on Wikipedia]. For more context and details about the harassment I experienced, see [https://funcrunch.medium.com/victim-and-survivor-c75d5c6de4d4?sk=fbd85816083ea0db1ac5adffabad9067 my post on Medium].

In August 2023, I was named Media Contributor of the Year for the [https://diff.wikimedia.org/2023/08/16/celebrating-the-2023-wikimedian-of-the-year-winners/ 2023 Wikimedian of the Year] awards. (See also my [https://funcrunch.medium.com/visibility-and-resistance-on-wikipedia-in-fifteen-photos-5851e2cd7216?sk=a991de61f510e746e3215e20b5b7c873 post on Medium].) That same month, the Bay Area Reporter published [https://www.ebar.com/story.php?ch=news&sc=news&id=327961 an article about me] and my contributions to the Wikimedia projects.

In October 2023, I was interviewed along with fellow nonbinary editor Tamzin for a WIKIMOVE podcast episode on transgender representation and harassment.

In February 2025, I wrote a piece for the trans publication Assigned Media, "[https://www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-news/trans-issues-wikipedia-bulwark-against-disinformation On Trans Issues, Wikipedia is a Bulwark Against Disinformation]", focusing on trans and nonbinary Wikipedia editors handling the onslaught of transphobia from the Trump administration.

I contribute to Wikipedia (and Wikimedia Commons) on my own time; no one pays me to do so. If I do ever edit a page directly related to [https://www.linkedin.com/in/funcrunch/ my employment], I will post a COI declaration as appropriate.
