Many artists will spend hours "wrangling" with some critic that doesn't like their interpretations or compositions or color palette. I'm no different. :Since the beginning I have screened just about every nominee...especially those that had not received a second after the 2 week period. They got extra scrutiny. I did NOT look for reasons to vacate the nomination. I looked FOR reasons to support it. I looked for positive actions above and beyond what was mentioned in the nomination.
These editors were not being placed in nomination for adminship or for the Oscars. Its a simple weekly award of thanks. I can assure you, the editor bluntly asking for honest feedback has never placed anyone up for the award and has never seconded a nomination and has never even commented at the nomination pages...ever. . :IMO the whole thing is just residual drama. Buster's done a great job of running this program (as has those who have helped along the way and continue to help). I avoid ER due to some of the drama and grandstanding that goes on from time to time, but it's certainly a needed activity and the Eddy is a great part of that. Is it Liz? Or is it Technical 13? Are you so stingy that you fail to understand that the EotW is just a glorified barnstar. • To clarify, policy doesn't strictly prohibit someone from doing what he did. Good taste would dictate that he respond to a request, but I don't think you can actually force him. Tags saying you have more bits than you really do, those can usually be forcibly removed because it causes confusion to new users and is a type of impersonation. Other stuff, not so much. a " festering 7 year conundrum " does not sound good. I an picturing lawyers but it could be many things. My eyesight continues to improve, tomorrow I take the last of my cataract drops then Wednesday back to the Dr. for another checkup. I can read in bed for the first time in ages (without the magnifying glass) so that's a big deal around here. My Brother & I have been paying 3 evenings a week, which is fun but takes up a lot of time and energy. In my view, it's not really a good summation of the criteria: as we discussed when we established the criteria, we were looking for a way to recognize someone's continued good work over some period of time. We did discuss how it could recognize a single key achievement, such as bringing an article to Good Article status. But I don't see it as a thank you for a discrete event that was appreciated; as we have mentioned numerous times, it recognizes good behaviours and ways of contributing that improve the project. (And editorially speaking, the sentence lacks a neutral point of view, and is a bit too informal for my taste.) I realize management of the recognition is primarily in your hands (and a few others), so if you feel that the direction of Editor of the Week has changed in this way, that's fine; just be aware that we picked the scope of Editor of the Week very deliberately, and my personal feeling is that shifting to a "thanks for X" mode diminishes its impact and makes it less distinguishable from other barnstars. isaacl (talk) 21:12, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

I think it’s very dangerous and wrong to allow a group of very strong, well-financed editors/individuals/companies who have no accountability to anyone other than their employers/stockholders/CEO's to have control over who gets access to the information in a Wikipedia article. Our readers don't know who writes the articles, who has input into the articles, who is gerrymandering the information to the benefit of their employer...not to the benefit of the article. . my total inability to concentrate on the eye drops that I have to take . . ....... for the rest of my life. I get ideas for editing but then when I sit down and try to work on them they just sort of fade away. Someone recently told me that I have to finish my book on Parducci and I am inclined to give it a try, only every time I start . . .. ::Pages can include the contents of other pages by reference, so when the other pages are updated, the including page changes. The Hall of Fame page currently includes 123 archive pages for the recipient infoboxes, so as you update an archive page, it shows up on the Hall of Fame page (once all 123 pages are used up, someone will have to go to the Hall of Fame page and add a whole bunch of new inclusions). However as an optimization, the Wikipedia server doesn't regenerate the page sent to your web browser every time you visit it; it saves a copy of the generated output and subsequent requests are sent this cached copy. I believe once a certain amount of time has elapsed, the server will regenerate the page again (editing the page of course also triggers a new page generation, and there may be other triggers). You can force the page to be regenerated by adding the "?action=purge" string to the end of the URL (the cached version of the page is purged and so a new version is generated). isaacl (talk) 20:47, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

::::I couldn't disagree more. For example there is a discussion going on right now at the Abortion article, an article that I've worked on for many years. I've spent hours and hours reading and discussing at that article about the wording for the lead--we are talking about just a few words here, not some big change. The last big blowup was several years ago but it goes on all the time. It is easy enough to sit back and say "I agree with xxx" and then you could say oh look low talk page edit count! But how difficult it is to wade in and present one's thoughts and the reasons behind those thoughts. And then reading pages and pages of the thoughts of others, and then responding to them. And on and on. It is hell. But if editors do not constantly work on that article (and many, many such articles) the so-called pro lifers would rob women of their right to choose in a heartbeat. And people do quote Wikipedia to back up their arguments. I know that before the last big lead change (though it was only a few words, if that) Catholics and other religious groups had been using our article to back their position. I for one call those editors that use our talk pages to argue article content the backbone of and hope for the accuracy of our project. I do not mean to criticize Ozzie for not taking part in the discussions--he is better at other ways to help this project. We are all different with different talents. ::::Sorry Gandy but you misinterpret my Use of the word Drama. Lets stick w/ Ozzie as my example of what I mean when I say "No Drama here". When you go to [https://xtools.wmflabs.org/ec/en.wikipedia.org/Ozzie10aaaa|this page] and scroll down you'll see a big circle segmented into "namespace totals" for the editors work which is displayed in percentages. When I am vetting an editor for the award, one of the more important things I look for is where is the editor spending their time. Are they working or are they talking? 80,368 of Ozzies 104,458 total edits are to articles or 76.9%. Article talk, user talk and other user talk amount to about 15%. I think high talk percentages are a clue to lots of chatter, lots of over-discussing. So... its just a clue or a hint (to me) that someone like Ozzie does not spend a lot of energy arguing. Or, to use my words, doesnt spend their time creating "drama". I could be wrong about using the percentages as a barometer...that's always a possibility. But I think the NameSpace Totals give me a window into the work habits of an editor that, most of the time, I know very little about other than what the nominator and perhaps seconds tell me.

For example in the many controversial articles on Trump, editor SPECIFICO writes thousands of talk page words using WP policy links to demonstrate things that I am in total agreement with but am not such a policy expert. She only very seldomly adds article page edits. But I am eternally grateful that at AfCs and such I can just say "per xxx and xxx". Like you, I don't like to argue and will only do it when I have no choice. At any rate, I do tend to bristle when an editor talks about TP edits as though they are not a good thing (though I understand that I did not exactly understand your position). Anyway, moving forward here's the deal on Ozzie: He knows how to cooperate. Ozzie and I worked together on the Ebola article and he did all the looking for new information and he posted it to the article. He didn't go to the talk page and ask for "permission", and why should he? We had both become experts of a sort on Ebola. But on the other hand I felt completely free to reword some of his edits and regularly pare off old information to make room for the new--and I didn't ask TP or Ozzie's permission either... So that is what I mean--his ego is strong enough that he does not feel a need to defend his every edit and is able to work with others for the benefit of the project. The nominations "sit" at the Nomination page for a short period waiting for possible "seconds and thirds". After a week or two I move them to the Accepted Nominations page where they join the queue awaiting the awarding process. At the moment I am just ready to award the first in line this afternoon which will leave 6 nominations; 4 of which I nominated, and your nomination is currently the last in line. 6 in line is a good margin. It relieves the stress of ME having to find a good candidate. I much prefer that working editors nominate the fellow editors that they see in action, doing whatever it is they do to improve the encyclopedia and the arena we work in. Toby lives outside. He is not homeless as he has many homes he visits throughout the neighborhood. But my building is his base. He once was an inside cat but his owners, tenants of mine, let him out one day, he tasted freedom, and now scorns entering any doorway. He just arrived (at 6AM) to check his dish which another tenant fills daily. Empty! I told him to go catch a city rat and eat it this time instead of dropping it off, decapitated, in my yard. He looked at me and walked away, insulted that I asked him to actually eat his prey. I didn't want to tell Toby that his former mate, Amy, was passing away upstairs. See, the former jerk tenant, that I had to evict for non-payment of rent, had four cats. Toby, his mate Amy, and two of their kittens that were adults. The jerk tenant completely abandoned the three inside cats leaving it to me to call the Anti-Cruelty Society to pick them up for adoption since they were good cats. They came but we only found two. Two weeks later, Amy jumped out of a hide-a-bed we were dismantling for discard and went to hide. For weeks she hid (not to well since we knew where she was) on the enclosed back porch, We LET HER BE, as instructed by the Beatles but she didn't eat food or drink we put out for her. On day she was gone! I left windows open and figured she jumped out one and went to join Toby in the Great Outdoors. Sadly that was not the case. A few days ago, my first floor tenant tells me he has been hearing mice in his bathroom ceiling. Knowing there is an access panel to the 6' foot tub and that I had opened it weeks ago to start a repair that was now on hold, I knew it was Amy. As I write this, Amy is in the throws of death. I can't get to her, poor thing. I dropped some wet food down to her and water but she is comatose...still breathing but barely. If I could I would end her pain but I can't reach her to help. • Amy didn't survive her ordeal. She passed away overnight. Animal Cruelty passed my call on to City Services Who will probably call the second Tuesday of next week. There was not much we could do to help her or ease her suffering. If you can visualize this, she was halfway... under pipes and the floor all under the tub. We scooted food and water, but she never touched it...not for days. She was never socialized to humans and because of that she hid and stayed away. Her chosen hiding place led to her death, so sad, poor little thing. We plan on wrapping her in linen and burying her in the garden. I'm sure Toby will visit. For some strange reason, with all that's going on, I find myself reflecting on my request of eleven years ago. But first I want to thank {{ping|Go Phightins!}} and {{ping|AutomaticStrikeout}} for their unwavering faith in my abilities to swing the mop and their fantastic support and timely advice at that time. They were right...I would have been a tremendous administrator. In RL, I filled administrative roles in many, many venues. With the Chicago police, with Rotary, with the local library, with the 2010 US Census, as General Manager of busy auto repair shop without any car repair experience (auto damage appraiser at the same time). Also remembered is that I was the altarboy for the Monsignor at the High Mass on Sunday. I was the lieutenant of the crossing guards in Grade School. I had the capacity to start at the "average/bottom" and wind up at the top...or at least close to the top. If you take the time to read the request for administratorship ; you will see that it was one little-minded gnat of an editor, one provocateur with malicious intent, that had it in for me. He threw stones whose ripples reverberated throughout the process and caused others to question my Wikipedia career. My downfall was his prime goal. But, luckily, in the long term, he failed. I'm still here and from the recent support and comments I have received here and elsewhere, I have left a positive effect on hundreds of editors. Because of signs of inactivity at his page and talk, I presume the gadfly has passed away. I might take the time to thank those that supported me and spoke in my behalf. Those were the highlights of the time. The misinterpretations and nastiness, the close-mindedness, the out-right attacks, of the Opposed will probably go ignored. But, I'm glad I didn't make it. My failed attempt led me to Editor of the Week which has been my home, my refuge, for 15 years. One more thing. I am in the best of health for a young gentleman of 78. Some aches and pains, high blood pressure, psoriasis, low grade leukemia. All is good. I'm just reflecting on my successes. The roller coaster of a life well lived. My proposal to make extensive changes to WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older was a bust, primarily because many users felt that the term "Senior Wikipedian" implied a higher ranking Wikipedia membership. Therefore, I am making two less ambitious proposals:

:Proposal #1. Change the name of "WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older" to "WikiProject Elder Wikipedians".

:Proposal #2. Drop the minimum age requirement to 60 years.

As this place works, it's on the Main page now because of the date (but Bach wrote it for the 20th Sunday, not the Tuesday after the 21st Sunday after Trinity).
