Committees
When you update the committee lists for Congress, can you please keep the old (112th) lists and add a new 113th?—GoldRingChip 20:49, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- See, e.g., my recent edit of United States House Committee on Appropriations—GoldRingChip 20:52, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- The consensus style for committee articles is to replace the previous congress with the new one. See Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Congress/Committees. It is not meant to be a listing of all historical members of the committees. I have actually thought there should be some sort of listing like this, and have a related sandbox. I would support the creation of membership sub-articles, especially for extremely long-lived and notable committees like Appropriations. If you want to propose that on the WikiProject, I'd support you. But I'd rather only display the current members in the main article.DCmacnut<> 21:04, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Help with fellow editor
There's a user, User:ANTONI20, who means well when she/he edits district pages. Information has been added, but the editor makes additional changes such as removing old information, reformatting lists to out-of-use formats, and using reverse chronological order. You can find some of our discussions on her/his and my talk pages. Please keep an eye on this editor's work as it overlaps with yours. Let's make helpful suggestions and keep this editor doing good work. It's frustrating, but maybe she/he will learn.—GoldRingChip 12:51, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Your reaction to...
Dcmacnut:
As far as I can tell, you are one who has dome the most edits to the article: United States House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. As such, I'd like your reaction to something. I've been editing (or wasting my job hunting time on) some US House Committee articles, specifically the member lists for the 113th Congress. If you take a look at this URL:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_States_House_Committee_on_Science,_Space_and_Technology&action=history
...you will see three anonymous edits:
10:06, January 9, 2013 173.76.243.219 (talk)
10:05, January 9, 2013 173.76.243.219 (talk)
10:05, January 9, 2013 173.76.243.219 (talk)
Now, in my posting of the "VERSION ONE" of the 113th member lists, I did ask for someone to double check my work... I just wasn't expecting it to be done anonymously. As a result, I don't even know if a posting to the 173.76.243.219 talk page would work.
My concerns are:
(1) Did this guy even do the Verify that is needed, and
(2) I disagree about deleting the "New Members for 113th" sections.
What's your opinion?
Should I undo everything he/she did or just the part I object to?
LP-mn (talk) 17:22, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
=Huh..., Committees & North Dakota=
Huh. I didn't know one could create separate sandboxes. Cool. Check out mine to see a mess of old ones.
As for the committees, eh. OK.
Footnotes on all the newest, or perhaps even EVERY member might be a good idea. In any case, I'll leave it up to you to figure out.
BTW #1: Do you have a feel for when the resolutions will be passed for the remaining members of the various committees?
BTW #2: I noticed you're from the Dakotas; North Dakota if I recall correctly. Are you from the Eastern part, around Fargo/Jamestown/Grand Forks areas or are you from the West end, around Williston/Minot/Bismarck areas?
=Williston Oil Fields=
Huh. For a while there I was considering going to work in the Williston area oil fields. Kids and wife make that difficult; housing makes it near impossible. I'm an out-of-work electrician who's job hunting.
LP-mn (talk) 02:57, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
===Budget Committee members?===
Take a look at: United_States_House_Committee_on_the_Budget#Members.2C_113th_Congress.
You'll notice that it does NOT have any new information for the Republican members of the committee. Have you seen any HRes about this? I've not been able to find one using the search engine at thomas.loc.gov. Better yet, do you know if Chairman Ryan has intentionally NOT filled out his committee for some sort of Machiavellian (sp?) reason?
=Appropriation's example=
Here's another one to check out: United_States_House_Committee_on_Appropriations#Members.2C_113th_Congress.
I added footnotes on a variety of committees (in the House), THIS one however has footnotes for EVERY member of the 113th, stating which resolution elected them, which ones were new, etc.
Your reactions?
LP-mn (talk) 23:54, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
:First, a quote of yours:
::On your reference example, there's a simpler method to call the references using named refs. That's too many footnotes. For DCmacnut<> 01:19, 20 January 2013 (UTC)a list like this, I think it's sufficient for a single reference for the entire list feather than person-by-person. DCmacnut<> 01:19, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
:Re the footnotes and/or references, I agree, there has to be a simpler method. I've seen it done, past tense, by someone else. What I don't know is HOW to do it, present tense, by myself. Perhaps each member would still have a footnote (or perhaps not), but down in the footnote section, the end result is something on the order of "ibid", or perhaps each member (who is included in a particular resolution) would share the same footnote number. Again, I know it can be done, I've just not been able to figure out HOW.
LP-mn (talk) 13:36, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
:::UPDATE: I just found this article (again?): Help:Footnotes#Multiple_references_to_the_same_footnote.
==There... (Better)==
Take a new look at United_States_House_Committee_on_Appropriations#Members.2C_113th_Congress; it's better, but by no means perfect. Reactions?
LP-mn (talk) 14:15, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
BTW/FYI: The only reason I worked on Appropriations was that I thought it was a popular site for editors to go to. Now that I've put my two-cents in for this committee, I may be working on those that I actually _DO_ have some concern over. These include:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Committee_on_Financial_Services
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Committee_on_Transportation_and_Infrastructure
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Committee_on_Agriculture
a lower priority include:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Committee_on_Natural_Resources
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Small_Business_Committee
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Committee_on_Foreign_Affairs
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Judiciary_Committee
===17:18, 20 January 2013 (UTC)===
Yea, I saw the edits that you or someone else made to appropriations, that solution seems fine. _BUT_ I do want to emphasize that in some cases later resolutions place a member higher up in Committee seniority (prior service, etc.). These situations need to be clarified in the footnotes/references.

Size of congressional committees
Do you know how it's decided how many members of each party get to be on a committee. That is, how the proportion of the House, as a whole, is reflected in the committee?—GoldRingChip 17:55, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
:Committee ratios generally follow the full chambers party ratio. In the Senate, committee size is capped, but on many committees the cap is routinely waived by agreement of both parties. In the House, there are no caps, and the party in control will either add majority seats or delete minority seats as needed to have a majority/minority ration that reflects the full House. But there's no hard and fast rule.DCmacnut<> 20:21, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
