Duplicate discussions

A while ago, you created {{tl|Uw-talkfork}}. Does this situation come up a lot? Afaict, there are [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=User+talk%3A+insource%3A%2F%5C%3C%21--+%2ATemplate%3A%5BuU%5Dw-talkfork+%2A--%3E%2F&title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&fulltext=1 no uses of it]. Did you intend to, and then the situation resolved itself, or you found another way? I thought that perhaps it wasn't easy to find, so I've [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere?target=Template%3AUw-talkfork&namespace=&hidetrans=1&hidelinks=1&limit=50 added a couple of redirects]; perhaps that will help a little. (P.S., there is, or at least was, a very active team proposing dozens of unused templates for deletion; maybe you should go subst that one now before it ends up on some backlog list somewhere. Feel free to tag me with it, and complain that I've told you all this before. {{wink}} ) Mathglot (talk) 06:00, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

:Talk page stalker..... was unaware of this existed.... I would personally use this... as is definitely comes up from time to time. Our problem is we have a sea of these type of templates. Should come up with some sort of way to consolidate these so we simply adding a parameter like a x y to identify specific warning templates to get the relevant template. ((Userwarning|parameter here)) Moxy🍁 06:21, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

:That situation comes up all the time! The most recent instance where I encountered it was barely a week ago. It's often easier to explain in the discussion itself, but this template might at least provide wording to do so (similar to {{t|Sofixit}}).

:I suspect it'd be used more frequently if it was added to Twinkle, so requesting that at WT:Twinkle might be a good step. Similar to templates like {{t|uw-ping fix}}, though, the "March 2025" heading it creates is a big minus, since that's a de facto black mark many editors don't want to give newcomers who haven't really done anything wrong. So I really wish Twinkle would allow us to define custom default headers for certain warnings.

:(As for the team going around massacring unused templates, I really wish they'd remember the last part of WP:TFD#REASONS #3 before making their nominations, but I'll fight for it if needed.)

[[Draft:Eaton DC|Eaton DC]] moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Eaton DC. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources, it needs more sources to establish notability and The edit summary "reference dump " summarises this. We need a referenced article not a headline with references. The title also gives no clue that this is a hotel.

I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page.

When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit for review" button at the top of the page OR move the page back.  Velella  Velella Talk   09:41, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

:Thanks for your note and your contributions to NPP, @Velella. The hotel is clearly notable, given the many independent reviews from RSP-greenlit sources cited in the article. It is a very short stub at present, yes, but there is no minimum required length for Wikipedia articles, and stubs' presence is a net positive — they provide a small bit of information to readers seeking out the topic (which is better than nothing) and they provide a skeleton for other editors (or the creator) to expand later (consider that getting an article launched is often the hardest step). If our goal is to ultimately have featured-quality coverage of every notable topic, even the shortest stub where there was previously nothing is a step along that path. I added a bunch of references to store them for later use as I expand the article — you'd be justified in adding an {{t|Excessive citations inline}} tag to reflect that they should be spread out as the article is developed, although I've always found that tag a bit silly in that it adds more clutter than it flags.

:Regarding {{tq|The title also gives no clue that this is a hotel}}, I also found the name rather odd — it seems more like a restaurant than a hotel! Is there a different title you'd find more suitable? Our general practice with businesses is to use the common name, which in this case is "Eaton DC", and I can't find anything else in the article titles policy that'd justify changes on the basis of a name not giving an impression of a business's type. The topic of the article is explained in the first sentence and the short description, which are the normal places to do so.

:Given the above, I am going to reverse the draftification. I'll also start to expand the article a bit as a good-faith gesture. But I hope I've explained why I would not have draftified it had I come across it in the NPP feed, and I hope that you will refrain from doing so for similar articles you may come across in the feed in the future.

:(One last note: Your message contradicts itself, which I presume is due to your use of a template. Please be cautious about this in the future, particularly with newer editors who may not realize the source of the contradiction. I've never had any issue with templating regulars, but you are ultimately responsible for the communications you sign, templated or not; when a template does not fit your intended message, you should modify it or write out your note.)

:Good luck with your patrolling and best wishes, Sdkbtalk 17:33, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

  • Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
  • An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{t|sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
  • An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.

Quotes

You undid my addition of a quote to the lead of Akira Kurosawa. I think that was a mistake. The lead for William Shakespeare (a Featured Article) rounds out with the following from Ben Jonson: "not of an age, but for all time". The lead for James Joyce has the following from the man himself: "For myself, I always write about Dublin, because if I can get to the heart of Dublin I can get to the heart of all the cities of the world. In the particular is contained the universal." That's also a Featured Article.

So I think it's entirely appropriate to have the Kurosawa quote in the lead, but won't press the issue until consensus has been reached. Charlie Faust (talk) 14:59, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

:I edited that article only as part of an AWB run, so you may want to be a little more selective in your notices. Cheers, Sdkbtalk 21:57, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

::Apologies. I wasn’t sure from the edit history comment exactly how automated your use of AWB was in that edit. Please forgive the intrusion. — TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 04:13, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

:::No worries; always better to err on the safe side of over-notification. For the future, I'd say that most uses of AWB are automated enough that people are only spending a few seconds per article, so if someone's only edit to a page has an AWB tag I wouldn't consider it necessary to notify them about a deletion/merge/etc. unless it somehow related to the edit. Tone check evaluation is now open

Hello

You signed-up to participate to the evaluation. Thank you for volunteering!

The feedback you share will help us assess and improve the performance of the Tone Check AI model.

The model is now ready to be tested, at this address: https://annotool.toolforge.org/projects/13

Annotool is the tool used by the Machine Learning team. You may be asked to log-in in order to start the evaluation.

Please read the instructions displayed on Annotool before beginning the evaluation.

If you have any question regarding the evaluation, please leave us a message on the project's talk page.

The evaluation will end on May 30. We really hope that you will enjoy working on evaluating the model!

Thank you again, Trizek_(WMF)

:I went through some examples, {{u|Trizek (WMF)}}. I initially got some {{tq|Failed to load resource. Server responded with: 500 ()}} errors, which then mysteriously went away when I reloaded. There wasn't any sort of tracker of how many evaluations I made, so not sure if I did 30. Sdkbtalk 20:31, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

::

::Yes, we had a few 500 errors. They are now fixed; please let me know if they aren't.

::The tracker would be a nice to have feature, but I'm afraid it would be the next time. I checked a few edits for French as a test, and, as the process is quite straightforward, I rapidly passed the 30 threshold without noticing it. ^^

Wiki Submission approval

Hello! I have submitted a Wiki page for Christine Huber and it has not been approved. Could you let me know what needs to be done to get it approved? TIA Kjeverett79 (talk) 17:46, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Kjeverett79, there is info in the note on your talk page about why it was not approved. You need to add references. Sdkbtalk 18:01, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

::I added in references at the end. Does it need to be done in a different way? Kjeverett79 (talk) 18:08, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

:::The article you submitted looked like this. On taking another look, it seems there was a hidden comment that was opened but never closed, causing the article to be cut off. I fixed that issue for you. I'd recommend using the preview function to catch stuff like that in the future and ensure the page looks how you're intending. You could try resubmitting it, but from a quick glance at the references, I don't think they're sufficient. The standard you need to show Huber meets is WP:NBIO, which requires references that provide "significant coverage" of Huber herself (e.g. a profile of her career, not just a mention that she commented on a sports event) from sources that are entirely independent of her (e.g. a newspaper article in a publication she does not work for). Sdkbtalk 18:20, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
