{{Archive box|/Archive1
/Archive2
/Archive3}}I have, as of 2009, started on a massive career change; from web developer to educator. Part of this is working on a degree in 'Technology and New Media in Education'. Such irony - studying how social media and new tools like Wikipedia are changing education means...I have less time to work on Wikipedia! I am here for a few minutes daily, even if I do not edit - if you have a question or comment for me, please do so!
New image project
Hi. This little form letter is just a courtesy notice to let you know that a proposal to merge the projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Free images, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use, Wikipedia:WikiProject Moving free images to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration into the newly formed Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media has met with general support at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Files. Since you're on the rosters of membership in at least one of those projects, I thought you might be interested.
Conversation about redirecting those projects is located here. Please participate in that discussion if you have any interest, and if you still have interest in achieving the goals of the original project, we'd love to have you join in. If you aren't interested in either the conversation or the project, please pardon the interruption. :) Thanks. Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:00, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Reviews
By all means, I'd love have you write some new reviews for the Signpost! Your review of Cult of the Amateur was excellent; I should have remembered it.
The way I've been arranging things is, when a reviewer or a few reviewers have signed up for a book, then I make sure I have everyone's mailing address and I try to contact the publisher and request copies to be sent directly to each prospective reviewers. So far, every publisher that has responded by email has given us the copies I requested (even one very expensive reference book), although I think in two cases I just never heard from them (I'll try faxes or phone calls, which are harder to ignore).
So if you want to review any particular book(s), I can probably get review copies. Maybe one or more of these is the kind of thing you'd be interested in?: Viral Spiral (with me); Against the Machine (with Katalaveno); Content Nation (with me and Cryptic C62) ; eCulture; From Papyrus to Hypertext. I'm contacting the publishers of Content Nation and Against the Machine today, so if you're interested in those please let me know quickly and email me your mailing address; for the others, no rush.--ragesoss (talk) 14:57, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
:There's an "email this user" link in the "toolbox" on the left sidebar of my userpage (and anyone who else who as that option enabled, like you do).--ragesoss (talk) 23:48, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Per your request

Orphaned non-free image (File:Sandler reads ode to bob.png)
Image:Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading :File:Sandler reads ode to bob.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Edangerbook.jpg
Thank you for uploading :File:Edangerbook.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 16:29, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

25px Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from {{#if:|:{{{1}}}|Wikipedia}}. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the {{#if:|[{{fullurl:{{{1}}}|action=history}} page history]|page history}}. I think you should have left your warning message there (after fixing the typo). It would be amusing for the user to see a warning that he might be blocked, after he's already been blocked. Reminds me of a scene from Love and Death. Sonja is fooling around with a pistol and it goes off with a loud bang. Boris says, "Be careful with that gun, it may be loaded." →Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 07:41, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
:I just thought it would add to the humor of the situation. "His Royal Highness" rules a kingdom that's roughly the size of a small county in Iowa, and apparently bought a "knighthood" from a mail order house that probably also sells the right to have a star named after you, so it's no wonder the guy's a tad irritable. →Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 08:35, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

As an administrator, I'd expect you to know that if you report a user at AN/I, you inform the user about it as it tells you to do at the top of the page. Please try and do this in future. --Cameron Scott (talk) 08:36, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Canadian Neonatal Network
Hi Thespian, my page Canadian Neonatal Network has been speedily deleted becuase of a conflict of interest and copyright infringemnet (much of the material used was from a website that I set up using approved language about the network's bachground, mission, goals, etc). Would it be possible for you to reinstate this, as it seems that I cannot touch it?

Fair use rationale for File:Dixiechicks The neighbor.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to :File:Dixiechicks The neighbor.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 03:21, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
:Saying "Fair use of album cover for illustration of music single" is not a rationale, it is just a claim - details on this at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. See examples of "rationales" at :File:Elemeno p-urban getaway cover.jpg or :File:Faithless Mass Destruction.jpg or :File:FairyRingCover.jpg. And, my bot is clearly named as "Skiersbot" and is not allowed or used for this purpose- these were all done by me, and it's not the first (or 10th) time that I've been accused of being a bot. Looking for Wikipedia Ambassadors
Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian in Boston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at schools in Boston and Cambridge, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you live near Boston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.
If you're an experienced and active Wikipedian, you might be interested alternatively in becoming an Online Ambassador. The role of Online Ambassadors is to serve as mentors for students; it doesn't require any in-person outreach. Take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

File source problem with File:Beaverbrook.jpg
Thank you for uploading :File:Beaverbrook.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user=Thespian}} in your upload log]. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:41, 25 December 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 01:41, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

Fix + Addition to Tuangou Article
Hi - the twangoo.co.za link on the article is missing an opening [ bracket, so it has this odd, orphaned closing ] bracket. Please fix:) Also, there is another rather large South African contender that is missing from this article (no shameless self-promotion, just trying to ensure the South African section is feature complete) - www.dealio.co.za

MSU Interview
Dear Thespian,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.115.210 (talk) 20:12, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
