  • And I just realized when going through the central auths to check for other project blocks that I filed this at the wrong name. Would a clerk mind fixing it to Gvozdet, which appears to be the oldest account here, and retag? Thanks so much, and apologies from me. I thought I'd found the oldest account beforehand. The account Zotur was globally locked on 15 June. As the relevant activities that led to the locking took place on Wikipedias that I am not familiar with, I can't really say what he did. I do know, however, that it was confirmed that Vorov was a sockpuppet of Zotor on Wikidata. Somehow this was missed on the English Wikipedia. In any case, since the locking of the Zotur account, numerous other accounts have sprung up with the same modus operandi. The nature of this modus operandi is most clear in looking at the edit history of Template:Russo-Ukrainian War. As yet, it is not obvious that these accounts have done anything malicious (outside avoiding scrutiny), but I'm fairly certain that something is going on here. RGloucester 15:15, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

  • As you can see, the user himself has admitted to owning the relevant accounts. I've managed to find additional information. Apparently, the account Zotur was linked to the account Servansky on the Ukrainian Wikipedia, which was in turn linked to Gvozdet, who is apparently blocked here as a sockpuppet of Dolyn. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dolyn. I don't know the details of this case, but apparently there has been 'long-term abuse'. RGloucester 18:06, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
  • By the way, when you check me, please answer why I was blocked in English wikipedia, just for avoiding scrutiny? And this is the reason for permanent block for many years? What am I doing wrong? --Chichiguy (talk) 18:20, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

{{sock list|1=Alvdal|tools_link=yes}}

{{sock list|1=JanPawel2025|tools_link=yes}}

My attention was first drawn to the relation between these accounts at Talk:War in Donbas. Alvdal, a new account, [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:War%20in%20Donbas&diff=1079165156&oldid=1079001207 started a move request], and Olchug [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:War%20in%20Donbas&diff=1079182226&oldid=1079179164 supported it]. Noticing the presence of new accounts in a topic area that is very sensitive to sockpuppetry (WP:ARBEE), I looked at Alvdal's contributions, and took note of a few things. One, Alvdal does not act like a new account, with one of his first edits [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Protesters%20(Act%20of%20Classes)&diff=prev&oldid=1078024418 being a change of redirect target], using the word 'target' in his edit summary. Second, we see that there is an active AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Russo-Ukrainian crisis (disambiguation), created by Olchug, which Alvdal supported. The tag-teaming at these two pages is suspicious, but not conclusive. However, what was conclusive was another interaction between these two accounts, at Resolutioners, a stub article [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Resolutioners&diff=1077871742&oldid=474913149 created by Olchug] about a Scottish political and religious grouping from the time of the British Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Alvdal [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Resolutioners&diff=next&oldid=1077874994 added new content] into this stub article, making these two accounts the only substantive contributors to it. This connection is too strange to be a coincidence, especially for a brand-new account with so few edits (Alvdal). Please do investigate.

::As an addendum, there is also the account JanPawel2025. I do not have any conclusive evidence for this account, other than that it is a new account that participated in Alvdal's move request at Talk:War in Donbas. However, I did note one thing that seems to point to this account being related to the other two. Specifically, please note that JanPawel's 'Support' at the War in Donbas discussion [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:War%20in%20Donbas&diff=1079252310&oldid=1079197194 is strangely indented] under my own comment there. This is not a form of indenting normally seen. Strangely enough, Alvdal used this exact same type of indenting, under my own comment, [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Russo-Ukrainian_crisis_(disambiguation)&diff=1079252794&oldid=1079249162 in his contribution at the AfD] that Olchug started. This similarity is very striking. RGloucester 22:53, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

  • {{ping|Girth Summit}} I originally posted this on your talk page, but I have decided to add it in here following the discovery of additional evidence. There is a very high chance that this sock farm is connected to the Gvozdet / Glovacki / Servansky long-term cross-wiki abuse case. On the English Wikipedia, the related SPIs are catalogued at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dolyn/Archive. My previous encounter with this case started with {{user|Zotur}}, and there are some similarities with the topics these accounts are editing. What makes me think this is certainly the case, however, is the globally locked {{user|Delasse}} account, which shares these accounts propensity for British and Irish history, along with Ukrainian and Russian issues. They have also noticeably made extensive edits to the Dutch Wikipedia, and claim to be a Ukrainian and Russian-speaker, now living in the Netherlands. Of course, none of this is conclusive, but it is worth considering. RGloucester 02:02, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
  • {{ping|Girth Summit}} I'd like to note that the relevant accounts have been confirmed as 'Glovacki' sockpuppets on Meta, and globally locked as such. RGloucester 12:57, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

  • {{Inprogress}} - there is something fishy going on here. Girth Summit (blether) 14:31, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
  • There is a very good reason why {{noping|Alvdal}} did not look like a new user - it's because they are most certainly not. They are {{confirmed}} to the following accounts:
  • {{checkuser|Heanor}}
  • {{checkuser|Thesmp}}
  • {{checkuser|Wibord}}
  • {{checkuser|WhiteCherepan}}
  • {{checkuser|Schleiz}}
  • Technically, {{noping|Olchug}} is only {{possible}} to this group - they are in the same country, but there is no significant overlap in IP ranges. They do overlap a number of discussions however, including [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AEastern_world&type=revision&diff=1076703037&oldid=1076602772 this rather odd exchange], in which Heanor proposes a merge, and then opposes their own suggestion through the Thesmp account, Olchug opposes, and the Schleiz account closes the discussion. I also note a remarkable amount of overlap in the global contributions between Heanor and Olchug - they're both active on a whole load of Wikimedia projects, with both of them having a lot of edits at de-wiki, nl-wiki, ru-wiki and be-tarask-wiki. I'm convinced that there is too much overlap for them to be unconnected, and will block as suspected - I'm also going to request locks at meta, since this is clearly cross-wiki, it's possible someone over there will recognise a pattern back to an older master.
  • {{noping|JanPawel2025}} appears to be {{unrelated}}. Girth Summit (blether) 14:49, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Noting that I'm going to move this case to the reflect the name of the Heanor account; technically, WhiteCherepan is the oldest account, but they've only made a handful of edits, whereas Heanor s quite prolific. Girth Summit (blether) 14:52, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
  • {{onhold}} - in light of {{u|RGloucester}}'s comments above, I'm placing this on hold - I'll need to do a bit of digging through the CU logs to see whether I can make a connection to that older master. Note that following some activity since my last comment, Olchug is now {{confirmed}} to the other accounts, so retagging. Girth Summit (blether) 08:45, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Based on the CU data I can see, the logs, and the behaviour, I am fairly confident that these accounts are indeed connected to the {{noping|Dolyn}} case, which is listed on cuwiki as Glovacki. Pinging stewards {{u|Ajraddatz}} and {{u|Base}}, who have both worked on this case in the past - could you comment on whether you agree with this assessment, and/or whether you see any other accounts that need attention? Girth Summit (blether) 12:13, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Closing following agreement from stewards on meta that this is Dolyn - merged to that case, will retag. Girth Summit (blether) 13:08, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

The first edit was 28 March, just after the previous accounts were blocked. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth?target=Balkovec Contributions to multiple projects], including ru, de, nl. Strong interest in British-Irish and Russia-Ukraine relations; I noticed that like the previous accounts he is active at RfD in this regard: RfD for Ukraine-Russia border crisis, Great Britain redirects. I also see a lot of work with political categories, which is a match for the Heanor account. -- Tavix (talk) 14:20, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

  • I noticed this too when looking at RfD. Certainly does not look like a new user; they started mass-editing category articles within their [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/Balkovec&dir=prev&target=Balkovec first few edits]. In addition to the topic areas Tavix pointed out, there are [https://sigma.toolforge.org/editorinteract.py?users=Olchug&users=Balkovec&users=&startdate=&enddate=&ns=&server=enwiki a bunch of shared pages with blocked sock Olchug] and a shared interest in WP:CFD/S. Follows the exact same patterns as all other Dolyn sockpuppets. Interest in redirects, Irish, Ukrainian, and Dutch matters. BlackBony was blocked on 23 July and Waltermaid picked right back up where he left off on 25 July. Same interests: political systems, Ukraine, and especially categories and redirects therein. That being said, the last few times Dolyn's socks have appeared at SPI, I have requested a merge of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lagelander but this hasn't happened yet. To be fair, I haven't put together a strong case for doing so, but now I have the time so let's do it: {{u|Lagelander}} was blocked 01:50, 17 December 2021 and {{u|Heanor}}'s first edit was later that same day: 10:28, 17 December 2021. {{u|Northumber}} started Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 December 22#Kurdish–Turkish conflict shortly before he was blocked, but the mantle was taken up by Heanor: Talk:Kurdish–Turkish conflict (1978–present)#Requested move 6 March 2022. Most of Northumber's edits before he was blocked were edits for the phrase "Eastern Orthodox" (eg: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=History_of_the_Ukrainian_minority_in_Poland&diff=prev&oldid=1060074934] [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vasyl_Sydor&diff=prev&oldid=1060498644]). This was also something Heanor took interst in: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Republic_of_Ancona&diff=prev&oldid=1062441063] [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eurosia&diff=prev&oldid=1062443883]. Cheselden's project was Ukrainian municipalities, including a series of edits to Zaporizhzhia City Council [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zaporizhzhia_City_Council&diff=next&oldid=1060077280]. When Heanor circled around to that project, that was one of the first articles he edited [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zaporizhzhia_City_Council&diff=1067619400&oldid=1067619346]. -- Tavix (talk) 01:00, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Sleeper account that woke up interested in the same things previous accounts were known for: creating redirects associated with Ukraine-Russia, Ireland-UK, and Christian history. Already familiar with how RfD and Twinkle works. One quirk that caught my eye: the use of a capitalized "Reply" on replies [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2022_December_16&diff=prev&oldid=1127721097] which Dolyn socks have been known to do (eg: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Finns&diff=prev&oldid=1113122391 Privybst], [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2022_August_3&diff=prev&oldid=1102199436 Waltermaid], [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Belgian_colonial_empire&diff=prev&oldid=1094670367 BlackBony], [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2022_April_14&diff=prev&oldid=1082711214 Balkovec].) -- Tavix (talk) 00:52, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

  • OK, so Dolyn has definitely been active recently - the following socks are {{confirmed}} to multiple socks from the archive (including Waltermaid):
  • {{checkuser|BestScone}}
  • {{checkuser|Smedja}}
  • Technically speaking, {{noping|Dioleal}} is no more than {{possible}} - geolocation matches, but this is a different IP range and device. However, Dolyn does not stick to a single device/IP range, and the article overlap is far too much to be a coincidence - I will block as suspected, and request locks. Created shortly after the most recent socks in this SPI report were blocked in January. {{sock list|1=Bartlea|tools_link=yes}}

I was looking at this editor after they emptied a category about Mandatory Palestine and another, more experienced editor, reverted their edits. I was struck by an edit they made to Agony ([https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Agony&diff=prev&oldid=1151804578 diff1]) which was similar in substance to an edit by User:Onlk ([https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Agony&diff=prev&oldid=1136122318 diff2]), a Dolyn sock about agony not being a form of suffering or pain. They also share a similar interests with Dolyn socks in categories and matters involving the sovereignty of states in different parts of the world, from Asia to Europe. Recently, Bartlea has been editing categories about Palestine, including :Category:Palestinians, a category that another Dolyn sock, User:Nagsb, nominated at CFD for renaming. With a history of so many sockpuppets, I assume SPI clerks and checkusers will be familiar with their interests and know whether or not this is another sockpuppet. I'm not sure how effective checkuser would be as I"m sure they will just create a new sock if this one is blocked rather than creating multiple socks at the same time. Liz Read! Talk! 19:47, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

:Looking at the SPI archive for Dolyn, there has been a history of multiple socks so maybe a checkuser check is warranted even though one was just done earlier this week. Liz Read! Talk! 19:53, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

::Thanks for the quick action. I guess with the sockmasters that are prolific, they are easier to identify when they return. Liz Read! Talk! 02:13, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

{{sock list|1=Aldij|2=Yorkporter|tools_link=yes}}

User:Yorkporter was globally locked on 17 March as a sockpuppet of User:Gvozdet (a sockpuppet of Dolyn). Aldij was created on 6 March and began making edits on 21 March following a similar pattern. Their very [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Political_status_of_Nagorno-Karabakh&diff=prev&oldid=1214863114 second] edit is starting a RM and after this they soon started making mass edits to categories about ethnic groups/nationalities in a similar way as Yorkporter did. Both accounts' first edits are on Nagorno-Karabkh before they moved onto the ethnicity/nationality categories as a quick way to get XC rights (vast majority of edits on both accounts are on categories). Aldij is also focused on Ukrainian topics, particularly articles about Ukrainian subdivisions (see for example Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Ukrainian places)) which is targeted by socks of Dolyn. There is very strong overlap in [https://sigma.toolforge.org/editorinteract.py?users=Yorkporter&users=Aldij EIA] for both accounts. Mellk (talk) 22:28, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

:I also noticed this as Yorkporter previously started a merge discussion at Talk:Russian occupation of Crimea#Merge proposal to merge Republic of Crimea (Russia) in which there was consensus to not merge, and now Aldij attempted to [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Republic_of_Crimea_(Russia)&diff=prev&oldid=1228734967 copy] a large part of the article to the latter. Both accounts were also pushing a pro-Ukrainian POV. Mellk (talk) 22:50, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
