Seeding
The 80 teams were split into eight groups of ten teams; five seeded teams and five unseeded teams.{{cite web |url=https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/01d0-0e6fc113628d-b4ee82ec5e87/ |title=All-star lineup primed for UEFA Cup draw |publisher=UEFA |date=28 August 2008 |access-date=5 February 2025}}{{dead link|date=March 2025|bot=medic}}{{cbignore|bot=medic}} The draw was based on their coefficient ranking with one exception: no country can have multiple teams in any group. Teams ranked 108 or higher were seeded, as were unranked teams from England and Spain. The draw, which was conducted by UEFA General Secretary David Taylor, was held on 29 August 2008 at 13:00 CET in Monaco.
