{{2025 German federal election series}}

The 21st Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany, was elected in the 23 February 2025 federal election, and was constituted on 25 March 2025.{{cite web|url=https://www.dw.com/en/new-german-bundestag-meets-for-first-time-since-election/live-72026267|title=New German Bundestag meets for first time since election|date=25 March 2025|access-date=27 March 2025|work=Deutsche Welle}}

The President of the Bundestag is Julia Klöckner (CDU).

The 21st Bundestag has 630 members, 103 seats smaller than the 20th Bundestag had been at 733 members. It has 208 members of the CDU/CSU, originally 152 members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), 120 members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), 85 members of Alliance 90/The Greens (Grüne), 64 members of The Left (Linke), and one member of the South Schleswig Voters' Association.

On 2 May 2025 the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, (BfV) Germany's federal domestic intelligence agency, classified the AfD as a "confirmed right-wing extremist" organisation.{{Cite news |last=Lunday |first=Chris |date=2 May 2025 |title=The AfD is a right-wing extremist group, German intelligence agency says The classification opens the door to deeper surveillance — and reignites a debate over whether the far-right party should be banned. |url=https://www.politico.eu/article/afd-officially-right-wing-extremist-group-germanys-intel-agency-says/ |access-date=2 May 2025 |newspaper=Politico Europe}}{{Cite web |date=May 2, 2025 |title=Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz stuft die "Alternative für Deutschland" als gesichert rechtsextremistische Bestrebung ein ("Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the Alternative for Germany as a confirmed right-wing extremist endeavor") |url=https://www.verfassungsschutz.de/SharedDocs/pressemitteilungen/DE/2025/pressemitteilung-2025-05-02.html |website=verfassungsschutz.de}} This classification was temporarily suspended by the BfV just a week after its announcement.{{Cite web |last=tagesschau.de |title=Verfassungsschutz setzt AfD-Einstufung als rechtsextremistisch vorerst aus |url=https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/innenpolitik/afd-verfassungsschutz-rechtsextrem-100.html |access-date=2025-05-08 |website=tagesschau.de |language=de}} One parliamentarian (Sieghard Knodel) has left the party in the time between.{{Cite web |title=Nach Rechtsextremismus-Einstufung: Abgeordneter verlässt AfD-Fraktion |url=https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/innenpolitik/afd-austritt-fraktion-100.html |access-date=2025-05-06 |website=tagesschau.de |language=de}}

On 6 May 2025 Friedrich Merz (CDU) was elected as Chancellor of Germany and sworn in alongside his cabinet. Merz failed to garner the required absolute majority of parliamentary votes in a first round of voting – a first in German history for a chancellor candidate.{{Cite web |last=Picheta |first=Rob |date=2025-05-06 |title=Merz appointed German chancellor hours after unprecedented parliamentary defeat |url=https://edition.cnn.com/2025/05/06/europe/merz-chancellor-german-parliament-intl |access-date=2025-05-06 |website=CNN |language=en}}
